The mural, located in the Bluebell Suite, which is the ward’s bereavement room, was created and donated by Allie, who has created several murals for the hospital. The Bluebell Suite provides local families with a private and peaceful space in which to grieve and spend precious time together after the loss of a loved one.

Cheshire East schools back phone-free education with lockable pouches ahead of September 100% of state high schools in Cheshire East have now either adopted or committed to introduce a phone-free school day from September, as Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Dan Price's initiative continues to gain momentum.

The milestone marks another significant step towards the PCC's ambition of making every state secondary school in Cheshire phone-free, helping young people focus on learning, improving wellbeing and reducing the harms associated with excessive smartphone use.

Jamie Meakin, of Crewe, was handed a sentence of seven years and nine months on Monday 24th August 2026 at Chester Crown Court. The 36-year-old had pleaded guilty to assaulting a girl by penetration and five counts of engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a girl. In January 2025, officers received reports that Meakin had been engaging in sexual activity with a child in the Crewe area. The offences had occurred over many years, starting when the girl was 12 years old.

The event marked the completion of a major investment in the park, with local families enjoying refreshments and activities as they explored the new play equipment for the first time. The impressive new play tower was chosen by local residents following a public vote that attracted more than 1,500 responses. Cheshire East Council delivered the project with funding support from Macclesfield Town Council, replacing an ageing play structure that had reached the end of its lifespan.

At around 5.45pm on Monday 24 August, police were called to reports that shots had been fired in the Beauty Bank area of Whitegate. Specialist firearms officers were deployed to the scene and a 35-year-old man from Cuddington was arrested nearby on suspicion of possession of a firearm in a public place. A number of searches were also undertaken which resulted in the recovery of an air weapon.

As part of its strategy to support active travel and accessibility for the community, and keep Knutsford well maintained, Knutsford Town Council arranged its second Tidy Town Day to help clear the build-up of detritus and overgrowth which has been narrowing the footway along King Edward Road. On Tuesday 18th August, 13 volunteers kindly gave their morning to cut back overgrowth, clear leaf litter, and remove other vegetation from the route.

The contribution included a range of food, household products and baby essentials, which were delivered to the charity’s community pantry in Crewe. The donation forms part of a national initiative by Taylor Wimpey to support food banks and organisations working to alleviate food poverty, particularly during the school holidays, when many services experience increased demand.

At around 4.15am on Tuesday 25th August, officers on patrol in Poynton spotted two men who were acting suspiciously on Dickens Lane. The pair were spoken to by officers and due to the strong smell of cooking oil, officers decided to conduct a search of the local area, leading to the discovery of a white Peugeot van which contained 15 drums of cooking oil.

At around 8am on Sunday 16th August, the cyclist was found at the side of Ashley Road, near to Ashley Mill Lane, having come off his bike. The 34-year-old man from Manchester, was taken to hospital where he remains at this time having sustained a number of serious injuries, including several broken ribs and a fractured skull.
