Simcoe County crime roundup: Barrie police and Collingwood OPP warn about human trafficking and potential frauds
A Toronto-area man is facing a series of charges in connection with a lengthy human trafficking investigation. Barrie police’s human trafficking unit launched the investigation in May following allegations of sex trade exploitation, assault, threats and controlling behaviour. Through the investigation, police say they learned that a suspect initially connected with the victim, a 23-year-old Barrie woman, via social media.

The Georgian Triangle Humane Society (GTHS) is looking for foster homes for 10 animals that are being rescued from the wildfires in northern Ontario. The GTHS is one of 18 animal welfare organizations working with the Northern Reach Network to rescue more than 100 animals. On July 18, the Bark Bus will bring 71 dogs and 30 cats to Barrie, where they will be transferred to organizations across Ontario. The GTHS will receive one cat and nine dogs.
