Snowshoe Mountain has officially released their calendar of events for the 2026 summer season, highlighted by the new Ballhooter Festival, a 3- day mountaintop music festival taking place Labor Day Weekend, Sept. 4-6. Headlining the weekend of country/folk music will be Turnpike Troubadours, 49 Winchester, and Morgan Wade.
Putting a Wrap on the 2025-2026 Ski Season with my Thank Yous!
Well we just wrapped up our 30th season of covering all things skiing & snowboarding for the southeast and mid-Atlantic. Thanks to the passion and efforts of our team AND the ski area mountain ops who supply all the fun for us to report on. That reporting lasted 135 days. Sugar Mountain Resort started us off, opening Tuesday, November 11th, 2025 and then they “bookended” the season closing Thursday, March 26th, 2026.

I sure hope y’all took my advice yesterday and made plans to hit Sugar Mountain today, because the 2025–26 season comes to a close right here, right now. Sugar made it official yesterday afternoon—last laps go down today.

The second I hit publish on yesterday’s FirstTrax, a nasty cough took over—and it hasn’t let up since. Turns out, one full day of rest wasn’t quite enough to shake off that winter high.

Checking in with you from the ‘Shoe after my two-day hiatus (thanks for covering me, Matt and Kenny). Per tradition, closing day at Snowshoe (which is also closing day for the Waffle Cabin), we always send it big. Closing Day at the ‘Shoe: One Last Go Around Those of us still standing take turns lapping the hill while one of us covers the cabin.
The Final Week of the 2025/2026 Season is Here
Stay up to date by getting notified of new posts! And then there was one. One resort remains open in the Southeast and one final week remains in the 2025/2026 ski season. A whole week might be a little optimistic as spring has definitely sprung and we even saw a bit of summer yesterday as temperatures looked more like June than March.
SNOWIES – 2025/2026 SEASON
Stay up to date by getting notified of new posts! Hello Everyone. This is my last Snow News Is Good News column of the year and it puts a period on my 21st season writing the column. This season will be remembered for tons of manmade snow and natural snow from Mother Nature coming at the right time. Whenever I talk to somebody about the season, they never fail to mention that it was fun playing in some natural snow. I saw lots of smiles this season.
Spring Sunday On Tap
And then there were three. Three resorts – Snowshoe Mountain, Sugar Mountain, and Timberline Mountain – are open for play on what is shaping up to be a beautiful Spring Sunday. It will be the final day of the season for Snowshoe and Timberline for the 2025-26 season, and it is going to be a warm one. Temperatures are already on the milder side this morning as Sugar is checking in at 57° at the base, while Timberline and Snowshoe are checking in the low 40s.
