Welcome to Double Take, a column dedicated to highlighting different comics and each’s merits through a discussion between two veterans of the comic site space. One is yours truly, the person behind the Eisner Award-losing SKTCHD, David Harper. The other is friend of the site and the Eisner Award-winning comics critic Oliver Sava. If you’re a regular reader of SKTCHD, you know I rep hard for Mark Mosedale and Si Smith’s 2026 graphic novel Gigs.
Chip Chat Vol. 8: Let’s Navigate!
Well, we made it to San Diego Comic Con and we both survived the experience, so it’s time once again for Chip Zdarsky to join me for one of our patented Chip Chats. And this time, we’re going to cover one of the most asked about topics after our viewer-driven Q&A in July, and no, it’s not about rumored members of Chip’s Avengers squad.
The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of August 19th
It’s an incredibly heavy week at the comic shop for me, with a truly unusual number of trades and graphic novels coming home. So, let’s get straight into a rather dense edition of The Pull, as I highlight my buys, recommendations, and curiosities from the week of comics, led by a big event and a personal graphic novel. Comic of the Week: Avengers: Armageddon #3 It feels good to enjoy Marvel again, especially a big event, and that’s what Avengers: Armageddon is.

Cartoonist Terry Moore joins the show to talk about his career and soon to launch crowdfunding campaign for Pandora’s Box: An Echo Story.
Comics Disassembled: The Things I Liked or Didn’t Like from the Past Week in Comics, Led by Some Sigh-Worthy Reveals
Folks, it was a rough week out there in comics, and I apologize in advance because it’s going to bring the hater out in me. I wanted to warn you up front, but let’s dig into it, as I write about the things I liked and, unfortunately much more likely this time, didn’t like from the week of comics in another edition of Comics Disassembled.
Has The Age of the Limited Series Continued Onwards?
For about as long as the direct market 10 has existed, ongoing series — meaning individual single-issue titles that do not have a planned end — were viewed as the surest way to sell a comic. While every type of comic had its merits, it was believed that finite releases like miniseries, one-shots, and even maxiseries 11 were a tougher sell for the Wednesday Warriors who frequent comic shops each week than the titles where the next adventure is always just a month away.
The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of August 12th
We’re operating on vibes this week, my friends, as The Pull and this look at my buys, recommendations, and curiosities from the week of comics is led by two easy sells that require very little information up front. Comic of the Week: Batman and Robin: Year One – Dynamic Duos #1 The easy approach for celebrating this title’s arrival would be to just write the name “Chris Samnee” over and over, because that’s what hits my brain when I think of it and my fingers instinctually would like to type.
Off Panel #565: Antonio Banderas GIF with Christian Ward
Writer/artist Christian Ward returns to the show to talk about his recent projects like Event Horizon, The Patron, and The Forever Home.
Comics Disassembled: The Things I Liked or Didn’t Like from the Past Week in Comics, Led by Multiple Marvel Compliments
In news that will stun the world, this edition of Comics Disassembled, in which I highlight the things I liked or didn’t like from the week of comics, begins with two consecutive positive items about Marvel.
“I Try to Never Do the Same Page Twice”: Artist Matías Bergara on His Art and A Mischief of Magpies
If I was tasked with creating a list of the most gifted comic artists operating today, Matías Bergara 5 would be on a shortlist of names near the top. There are very few who can create fully unique layouts, potent storytelling, powerful covers, and maybe best in the business commissions in the way Bergara can, and he proves it on every project he takes on.
