by Ripples Turquand Longer days, hotter sunshine, and flip-flops are becoming the go-to shoe. Be barefoot. By making direct electrical contact with the earth through the body’s skin, you’re engaging in a practice known as grounding or earthing. Growing up at the beach, I’ve developed a habit of wanting to be as close to barefoot as possible.
Why You Should Pick Up a Print Magazine
By Ella Parastaran As someone who has subscribed to print magazines since elementary school, I’ve always appreciated the experience of reading a physical issue rather than scrolling through online content. Ahead of the SMU Look Magazine launch party today, I wanted to share a few of my favorite reasons to buy print magazines. There is something uniquely special about print magazines. For generations, they have been a way to explore fashion, culture and lifestyle through curated stories and imagery.
goop & Neurowellness: Gwyneth Paltrow Knows The Brain
By Ripples Turquand We’ve been sold six-packs and clear skin. We’ve even been sold BBLs and Botox. While celebrity culture once promoted a Kate Moss lifestyle and a Kourtney Kardashian skincare budget, platforms like goop are reframing health as an inside-out journey, prioritizing emotional resilience and spiritual alignment over pure perfection. Traditional celebrity wellness often emphasizes visible results.
Spring Sets Make the Shift to Summer Effortless
As we continue to transition from spring to summer style, putting together the perfect outfit can feel complicated. To make this transition easier, you should consider matching sets. They are effortless, versatile, and consistently polished. Sets take the guesswork out of getting dressed. Similar to a dress, but more adaptable, sets offer a cohesive look while still allowing each piece to stand on its own.
Nobody’s Career Goes in a Straight Line - These Two SMU Alums Are Proof
By Bella Stryker Standing in the middle of the Robert J. O’Donnell Lecture Recital Hall, Fleastyle Founder Brittany Cobb pointed up to the third row. “I sat there my first day, my first class at SMU,” she said. “I took Drama 101, and I met my best friend sitting next to me that day, and the rest is history.” The tall and stylish, navy cowboy hat-wearing Cobb had recognized the room the moment she walked in — same steep auditorium where she took Drama 101, same seat where she met her best friend.
The Bread Club draws crowds in Uptown, bringing artisan bread culture to Dallas
Dallas’ newest bakery, The Bread Club, opened Monday, March 9, in Uptown. The concept was created by Southern California brothers Brandon and Henry Cohanim, founders of the Feels Like Home restaurant group, which also brought Dallas dining hotspots Namo, Mamani and Bar Colette. Hannah Lockyer, a social media intern for The Bread Club and a senior finance student at SMU, described the concept as more than just a bakery. Rather, it “brings bread culture to Dallas,” Lockyer said.
How to Say “I Love You” Without Saying “I Love You”
An unmistakably personal art is back on the rise – handwritten letters. In a world of fast-paced texting, AI-generated emails (like the ones you send your teacher), and delete buttons that erase authentic thoughts, everything we do can be hyperperfected with the help of technology. Writing by hand removes these shortcuts. Pen on paper becomes, in itself, an art and a more meaningful way to show others that you care about them.
The Complicated World of Sample Sales
By Crystal Puga Born in NYC, 260 Sample Sale tapped the Dallas market to reduce fashion waste and make luxury accessible. Through the brand, people can shop an assortment of brands, such as Missoni, Love Shack Fancy and Reformation, at 70-90% off. Admittedly, the concept of such a great deal draws out large crowds, but the Dallas shop is slowly getting the energy that stretches around its block under control. A recent shopping event they held was for Parke, and a post uploaded on Feb.
Books I Want to See as Movie Adaptations
By Ella Parastaran With recent book adaptations like The Housemaid, Wuthering Heights, and the upcoming Reminders of Him, it’s hard not to think about which other books deserve to make their way to the screen. Movie and TV adaptations are everywhere right now, from the ongoing buzz around Tell me Lies to the conversation that still surrounds the It Ends With Us movie adaption based on the Colleen Hoover novel. As someone who reads frequently, I find myself thinking about this often.
