In the early 21st century, it is imperative that the Left begin a sustained process of organizational redevelopment, experimentation and struggle. Neither capitalism nor neoliberalism will fade from the planet based on the momentum of their own contradictions, or as result of new technologies. The SP is a Toronto-based organization that supports the rebuilding of the socialist Left in Canada and around the world. Committed to the development of a more free, democratic, humane and sustainable society than the one we live in, the SP opposes capitalism out of necessity and supports the struggles of others out of solidarity. We support struggles aligned with working class emancipation, anti-oppression, democratic self-determination, planetary sustainability, and peace. We do not propose a fast route out of capitalism, claim a ready alternative to take its place or extol any one Left tendency. We engage the concrete limits and possibilities of emerging struggles within and against capitalism as it is today with an eye to making a different kind of future. Source

Pushed Over the Brink: The Escalating Assault on Ontario’s Hospitals
Public Goods • August 30, 2026 • In previous submissions to the government, we noted that Ontario hospitals face a worsening capacity crisis due to stagnant bed growth, insufficient staffing, and inadequate funding. This has worsened as funding increases have failed to match cost pressures. We are now in the third year of funding plans that cannot maintain current service levels. For the last two years, funding has fallen at least two percent per year behind costs.

NATO and Potemkin Ankara
International Relations • August 25, 2026 • Attendees of the NATO summit in Ankara in early July were anxious. Prior to the gathering, Donald Trump threatened to withdraw the US from the 32-member alliance, primarily because the organization had refused to support his illegal war on Iran. Trump also claimed to be considering the removal of American troops from Europe in retaliation for the alliance’s opposition to his demand that Denmark, a fellow NATO member, surrender Greenland to the US.
Mass Incarceration in El Salvador: State of Exception, State of Repression
In March 2022 the Nayib Bukele administration in El Salvador invoked an emergency measure called a “state of exception” in reaction to a spike in gang violence. Under the pretext of protecting public order, this measure suspends freedoms of assembly, association, and expression, as well as fundamental rights surrounding arrest and detention.
New Brunswick’s Energy Contradictions

It will be built in Centre Village, a small hamlet in the municipality of Tantramar in the southeast of the province. The move surprised no one, and that is both a shame and part of the problem.
