The future is a fine place, and worth fighting for. In If Destruction be Our Lot… by Andy MacDonald and Mark Elijah Rosenberg and Matthew Rosenberg, we follow an animatronic Abe Lincoln through a post-apocalyptic America where only tech survives; wherein the creators explore the idea of how history and purpose intersect to steer us in the right or the wrong direction, depending on how those two elements are considered and actioned.

For years, I attended comic conventions the way most people do: I went to discover new books, meet creators I admired, listen to panels, and spend more money than I intended on comics and collectibles.

There is a particular kind of silence that belongs to comics. It is not the silence of nothing happening. It is not blankness, emptiness, or a failure to speak. It is closer to a pause in which the reader becomes aware of their own looking. A figure stands by the sea. A bird crosses a page. A body turns away. A landscape changes slightly from one image to the next. No caption explains the movement. No dialogue tells us what has been lost, remembered, or understood. The page simply waits.

About sixty pages into Uri Tupka and the Gods, it happens: a panel stops me in my tracks.
