On most match days, the bleachers at the UCF Soccer Complex fill with Knights fans, family members, and friends cheering on their school or favorite player. However, if you look a bit deeper into the crowd, you might find legendary former players who helped shape the Men’s Soccer program. The men’s soccer program’s history dates back to the Florida Technological University (FTU) days, when legendary head coach Jim Rudy led it.

Before kickoff, the home crowd heard that senior quarterback Keyone Jenkins will fill in for the injured Alonza Barnett III, who missed Saturday’s matchup while dealing with a hamstring injury. The Knights (2-1, 0-0 Big 12) could not have gotten off to a better start.

The Knights (5-1-1, 0-0-1 Big 12) came into the match up well rested after a full week since their last match against the North Florida Ospreys. The Knights saw pressure early from the Red Raiders’ (4-0-4, 0-0-1 Big 12) offense as they faced eight shots in the first half, with four on goal.

This matchup will mark the first-ever contest between the two programs. The Knights (1-1, 0-0 Big 12) head into the matchup without their starting redshirt senior quarterback Alonza Barnett III, who suffered a ‘significant’ hamstring injury in the loss, according to head coach Scott Frost.

Barnett was injured on the second to last play of the final drive of the Knights 12-7 loss to the Pittsburgh Panthers, senior quarterback Keyone Jenkins replaced Barnett on the final play.

In a matchup that was set to kick off at 3:30 p.m., a 90-minute weather delay pushed kickoff to around 4:35 p.m. Although the game began, the weather persisted throughout. The game got off to a defensive start from both sides, with the lone points in the opening quarter coming from a Panthers (2-0, 0-0 ACC) field goal.

The Knights (5-1, 0-0 Big 12) were eager to bounce back following a crushing 7-0 loss to Brown that previous Sunday. After allowing seven goals in the matchup against Brown, the Knights looked to make a defensive statement by holding the Ospreys (2-2-3, 0-0 ASUN) to zero shots in the first half.

Both teams are coming off powerful blowout wins in their season openers this past week. The Knights (1-0, 0-0 Big 12) tallied 360 yards on the ground as well as 200 yards through the air against Bethune-Cookman last Thursday.

The Knights’ (6-1, Big 12) dominant win comes after clinching two series victories early in the 2026 season at the Black and Gold Classic and the Wake Forest Tournament. Stetson (3-3, ASUN) brought the matchup to its closest of the nightin the first set, keeping the contest tied 16-16.

The Knights set a program record Thursday with a 67-point win, the biggest margin of victory in program history since Halloween of 1987. The Knights came flying out of the gate as junior running back Duke Watson took it to the house 64 yards on his first touch as a Knight.
