Radiography students join archaeology project to unlock Roman secrets
Student radiographers, medical imaging academics and members of the University of Cumbria’s community archaeology team are collaborating to unlock Roman secrets. Artefact imaging sessions have brought the groups together on the Uncovering Roman Carlisle project, with X-ray scans helping to unveil buried secrets at the Carlisle Cricket Club's Edenside ground.
SoR submits evidence to Professional Standards Authority on statutory regulation of nuclear medicine technologists
The SoR has submitted evidence to the Professional Standards Authority on the risks relating to the current Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT). This Professional Standards Authority (PSA) accredited register provides a voluntary route for nuclear medicine technologists and other unregulated associated diagnostic professions to demonstrate that they meet high standards of personal behaviour and technical competence.

The Society of Radiographers is encouraging its members to share their views on a proposed price increase to Health and Care Professions Council registration fees. As part of a consultation on its pricing structure, the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) is seeking views on its plans to increase the cost of registration for regulated healthcare professionals.
‘My culture has taught me the importance of compassion’: Celebrating South Asian Heritage Month with SoR member Samina Hussain
During South Asian Heritage Month, the SoR is celebrating and amplifying the experiences of its members from South Asian Communities. Observed annually across the UK throughout July, South Asian Heritage Month aims to celebrate the diverse culture and history of South Asian communities in Britain and internationally. The theme for this year’s campaign is 'unity in diversity’.
Sarah Burn elected as vice president of the Society of Radiographers
The Society of Radiographers has announced Diagnostic Radiographer Sarah Burn as its new vice president, following on from her successful election victory. Sarah, who works as principal Diagnostic Radiographer at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, has more than 20 years of experience in the profession and has held leadership roles across multiple imaging modalities, including as an advanced practitioner.
SoR officially welcomes new president Rachel Nolan
The Society of Radiographers has officially inaugurated its new president Rachel Nolan, during a ceremony at the Museum of Zoology in Cambridge. Rachel was inducted as president on Wednesday 1 July to start her year-long term in the role. She currently works as assistant professional lead for diagnostic imaging services at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust.
Clinical Support Workers in Therapeutic Radiography
This guidance forms part of a wider programme of work to support the development of the radiotherapy workforce. It complements the Recommendations for a therapeutic radiographer workforce by describing how senior clinical support workers and assistant practitioners can contribute to safe, effective and sustainable radiotherapy services, working alongside therapeutic radiographers within multiprofessional teams. This work was commissioned and funded by NHS England.
Digital platform for SoR’s CPD journal Insight is officially live
Insight, the Society of Radiographers’ official journal for continuing professional development, is now accessible entirely online via a digital platform. This new digital publication for Insight will give radiographers access to a full range of fully searchable CPD articles, making the new platform a vital tool for radiographers in clinical practice or research.
Children’s health framework highlights growing role for radiographers
Written by Sue Johnson, professional officer at the SoR The Children and Young People’s Health Policy Influencing Group has published a policy paper on shaping the future direction of services for babies, children and young people. As a member of the Health Policy Influencing Group (HPIG), the SoR has contributed to this work, alongside a wider coalition of organisations, to support efforts to place children’s health at the centre of system reform.
