Neighborhood News Guy's Note: Sept. 9, 2025
Around 11:30 on Monday morning, my phone buzzed with an alert from Rogers-Herr Middle School indicating it was a “safety update.” Soon, I read the message from RHMS Principal Dr. Tawauna Stewart, explaining that a student had posed with a weapon for an image shared on social media. No one hurt, and the photo was taken down. Dr. Stewart also indicated that education privacy laws prevented her from revealing consequences for the student in question. I’m not sure that’s true.
Neighborhood News Guy's Note: Sept. 8, 2025
I spent last week near the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, on the banks of the Mississippi River, finding myself at a crossroads for Southpoint Access. For a little more than a year, I’ve worked on finding the kinds of content and a publishing cadence that works for my neighbors in Hope Valley, Parkwood, Fairfield, and other South Durham communities.

Here’s what happened around South Durham this week: After a school shooting in Minneapolis killed two and injured 17 (mostly children), Durham Public Schools leaders assured families that safety remains a top priority. DPS outlined existing safety protocols, including building access controls, drills, and partnerships with local law enforcement.

Beaujolais has the unfortunate luck to be stuck between two absolute powerhouses of fine wine, Burgundy and Northern Rhône. Though technically in Burgundy, Beaujolais is an outlier in many respects; soil type, grapes, and vinification to name a few.
