What is World Book Day? On the first Thursday in March each year many children leave their school uniforms at home and instead dress as their favourite literary character. Dressed in stripes as Wally, carrying an umbrella as Mary Poppins, or even eating Marmalade sandwiches as Paddington Bear. The reason for this is World Book Day. However, there is much more to this day than dressing up.

Stanley G. Love is a planetary scientist and NASA astronaut with 25 years of experience in the fields of impact physics, interplanetary dust, and chondrule formation. He is first or contributing author on 90+ peer-reviewed technical articles and abstracts, including two each in Science and Nature. He has maintained a record of peer-reviewed publication in planetary science while training to fly in space and serving as a crew member aboard Space Shuttle mission STS-122.

This mission patch was produced to commemorate the historic spaceflight of Shaun the Sheep in 2022 aboard the Artemis 1 mission to the Moon. In partnership with the European Space Agency (ESA), Aardman's Shaun the Sheep became the first European to fly around the Moon as a passenger on Artemis 1, the first flight of NASA’s Orion spacecraft to the Moon.

Please bring a sleeping bag, sleeping mat, a pillow and some clothes to sleep in. Please keep luggage to a minimum. Overnight clothes must be suitable and warm enough for standing outside in the unlikely event of an evacuation. Shoes must be worn at all times in the Centre for health and safety reasons, apart from when you are sleeping. Lighting will be on a low level throughout the night, but a torch may be a good addition to your overnight kit.

Planetarium Talks When you buy a day ticket you can select ONE of the following talks in the Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium to be included in your visit. Early booking will ensure you get your first choice of session. Our host for the Q&A sessions is Reece Connolly. Reece is a writer/performer/lifelong geek [not necessarily in that order], living in London, originally from the North East [lots of planets have one!].

Future Endeavours Following on from the first the first all-private mission to the ISS with Axiom Mission 1, the completion of Axiom Mission 2 doesn’t mark the end of Axiom’s endeavours into space. Axiom Mission 3 is planned to launch no earlier than November 2023, though very little is known about this mission other than it will launch aboard a Falcon 9 Block 5, similar to the first two Axiom missions. This mission will also include the first Turkish astronaut as a mission specialist.
