Fralick, Cannizzaro advance to AG primary
Adriana Fralick defeated Danny Tarkanian in the Republican primary for Attorney General of Nevada on Tuesday. Fralick now faced Democrat Nicole Cannizzaro in the general election. Tarkanian called his loss a “good old fashion butt kicking” and issued the following note to supporters: I haven’t experienced a butt-kicking this bad since Chaparral High School beat my Gorman Gaels football team 37-0 on our homecoming.
Sen. Rosen leads effort to restore NEH funding
U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) led members of Nevada’s Congressional Delegation in a letter urging the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to release and disburse all appropriated funds to State Humanities Councils across the country. For the last six months, the NEH has not disbursed already appropriated funds for the 2026 financial year, with the excuse being that the NEH did not have an appointed chair.

University graduation ceremonies set
The University of Nevada, Reno will hold five in-person ceremonies on the University Quad from Thursday through Saturday, May 14-16, to confer 3,041 degrees, including 2,291 bachelor’s degrees and 750 master’s and doctoral degrees. Five ceremonies: The University will offer five separate ceremonies to accommodate graduates and their families.
Another swarm of quakes rattle Sparks area
A magnitude 4.7 earthquake rattled an area near Silver Springs Wednesday. It was felt in the greater Sparks area and followed up with at least four notable tremors ranging from 2.6 to 4.8 magnitude. The swarm struck at 10.23 a.m. It was in an area that has seen increased seismic activity. Read more here.

The quake occurred at a depth of about 10 kilometers. It was felt as far away as Fallon. No significant damage has been reported, but residents were warned to be prepared for possible aftershocks. Sparks man to head Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
Today, Governor Joe Lombardo announced the appointment of Vinson Guthreau as the new Director of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR). Mr. Guthreau will succeed current Director James Settelmeyer, whose last day at the agency is March 27, 2026. “As the outgoing Executive Director of the Nevada Association of Counties, Vinson has shown outstanding leadership in managing regional services at the local level,” said Governor Lombardo.
