Panama rocked by 2 powerful earthquakes and multiple aftershocks, prompting evacuations
PANAMA CITY (AP) — Two powerful 7.7 and 6.6 magnitude earthquakes and a series of aftershocks roiled southern Panama Friday afternoon, collapsing buildings near the epicenter and prompting evacuations across the country. The earlier quake, felt as far away as neighboring Colombia, was centered about 10 kilometers (6 miles) southwest of the remote community of Pitaloza Arriba, in the central province of Herrera, the USGS said. It struck at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles).

A new pact that calls for Russia to boost the U.S. supply of diesel over the next few months is unlikely to make a dent in painfully high prices at the pump or elsewhere, energy policy experts say. President Donald Trump announced Friday that he had struck a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin to immediately supply the U.S. more than 300,000 tons of diesel. That would be followed by an additional 500,000 tons in November, then 4 million more tons at some point after that.
The Latest: Vance says he won’t watch the Pentagon’s planned execution livestream
Vice President JD Vance cast doubt on Friday about whether the Pentagon will livestream the firing-squad execution of the Fort Hood shooter in December, telling reporters he wouldn’t watch it and, “I don’t know that that’s actually going to happen.” It would be the first military execution in more than 65 years. Vance and President Donald Trump have both focused on the shooter’s 2009 attack at Fort Hood, where he killed 13 people.
