Here in Portland, Oregon the air is cooler, days shorter, and desire for hot coffee…greater? The seasons change and that means our delicious summer series The Build-Outs of Coffee is coming to close. But not before our last installment of what we like to call The Coffee Buildcast! Coffees are sipped! Build-outs are discussed! Have a listen right now! We keep track of just about every detail across the Build-Outs of Coffee feature series, and we believe today represents something particularly unique in our archives. This feature takes us to the tiny town of Elverson, PA—population 1,322—and what may very well be the smallest jurisdiction ever to be featured in a Build-Outs story. Elverson is due east of Philadelphia, most of the way to Lancaster, and home to Twin Valley Coffee, a family-owned business with a 20 year legacy of serving coffee.

I’m old enough to remember when there was only one type of AeroPress. It was called the AeroPress. It was compact, plastic, inexpensive, and no frills. It was a revelation for on-the-go brewing. These days you’ve got big AeroPresses and little AeroPresses and glass ones and steel ones and colors galore. I’m not complaining or anything. I think it’s great. We’ve all grown up and so too has the coffee maker that was this close to being another frisbee.

With the final days of Build-Outs season approaching, we’re thrilled to take a look inside the newest cafe from Michigan’s Madcap Coffee Roasters. Our last day publishing Build-Outs is October 1st! This is the final week of the 2026 Build-Outs of Coffee feature series, which concludes trading on October 1st. But before we step away, let’s visit the gracious southern charm of Savannah, Georgia, home since 2016 to Cup to Cup, a coffee bar that grew out of the city’s farmers market scene. The field for the first national event of the 2027 US Coffee Championships season is now set. Over the weekend, the second qualifying event for the 2027 US Roasters Championship took place just outside Portland at iFill in Washougal, Washington. 24 competitors from across the country took part in the western regional, hoping to earn one of the nine available spots left in the national round for this year’s competition.
