The Standard-Speaker publishes seven days a week, 365 days a year, serving Greater Hazleton and other communities in southern Luzerne, northern Schuylkill and northern and western Carbon counties of Pennsylvania.
The newspaper traces its roots to the first printing of the Hazleton Sentinel on Jan. 18, 1866. After various mergers and name changes, the Standard-Sentinel merged with The Plain Speaker in 1961 to become the Hazleton Standard-Speaker. The newspaper has been owned by Times-Shamrock Communications, a Scranton-based media company, since 2007. Source

(AP) — South Dakota cannot enforce its abortion advertising ban against a reproductive health nonprofit, a federal judge ruled Friday. U.S. District Judge Camela C. Theeler issued a preliminary injunction blocking South Dakota from enforcing the recently adopted state law against New York-based Mayday Health and plaintiff Nancy Turbak Berry. The judge said the nonprofit was likely to win the case.
