Simone Biles has once again made history, winning the all-around final at the Paris Olympics and securing her ninth gold medal. She held off fierce competitor Rebeca Andrade of Brazil to solidify her status as the only American gymnast to win gold in the all-around final more than once. The margin of victory Biles’ had over Andrade was narrow, equivalent to a fall, but with the late decision to bring out her “Biles II” vault, Simone was able to secure a gold medal.

With less than a week before the Olympics, Team WNBA beat Team USA with Arike Ogunbowale claiming MVP and Caitlin Clark setting a rookie assist record. After the matchup Head Coach of Team USA, Cheryl Reeve, said “The depth of talent that we have in the USA, there’s no one who has anything close to it.” Reeve went on to say, “There are players on this team that are great players. The WNBA All-Star Roster is set including rookies Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark who will be facing off against Team USA on July 20th. Along with Reese and Clark, nine-time All-Star Nneka Ogwumike of the Seattle Storm will be heading to Phoenix. Six-time All-Star DeWanna Bonner of the Connecticut Sun, Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell of the Indiana Fever will also be a part of the team. Clark commented, “This is a huge accomplishment for everybody on Team USA and everyone on Team WNBA.

Unionville Sebewaing cemented its spot in the history books after its fifth straight State Championship win in East Lansing on Saturday, June 15th tying the record for consecutive titles. Senior star Gabby Crumm led her team to the 11-1 victory against first time finalist Holton in six innings. USA jumped out early putting 3 on the board in the 1st inning. Later in the 4th, Ella Neumann recorded a two-run single and Crumm launched a two-run home run.

The Grand Rapids Catholic Central girls lacrosse team completed a perfect season holding off defending Division 2 state champs, Detroit Country Day in the State Championship at the University of Michigan Lacrosse Stadium. Super-star senior Claire Marosi, who has had an incredible season and career as a cougar, was confident her team would get the job done. “Just to finish with momentum on our side was really helpful. I think we all knew when it comes down to it, we would pull it off,” Marosi said.

The long-awaited roster for the 2024 US Women’s Olympic Basketball Team has been unveiled, featuring a mix of promising newcomers along with some gold medal winning veterans. These 12 exceptional athletes will proudly represent Team USA in France with their first game set for Monday, July 29th against Japan.

The Michigan Senate passed House Bills 5527 and 5528 requiring schools to create response plans for cardiac emergencies and to ensure lifesaving equipment is nearby in the case of those emergencies. Bill 5527 requires Michigan public K-12 schools to have cardiac emergency plans in place by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Those plans would involve emergency response teams equipped with automated external defibrillators (AEDs), trained in CPR, first aid and AED administration.
