Today represents a momentous step forward towards LGBTQ+ equality as the Government have finally published their long overdue draft Bill to ban conversion practices. Everyone deserves to be free and safe to be who they are, LGBTQ+ people are not broken and they don’t need fixing. After more than eight years of delays and broken promises, this vital government action to protect the LGBTQ+ community from harm is long overdue.

As I inch closer to my half-century, I think about the many arguments that have been levelled against my right to equality and inclusion over the years, arguments contained within religious edicts, hateful legislation, court judgments, institutional bias and deeply enshrined homophobia.

Today the Equality and Human Rights Commission's long-awaited Code of Practice on Services, Public Functions, and Associations was published by the Government. The updated Code is 340 pages long. We along with duty bearers need time to read and digest it, and fully understand how services, public functions and associations can be inclusive in line with the law.
