A new design festival for Berlin
The first edition of Currents. Design in Berlin will take place from 10 to 12 September 2026: this decentralised festival will be spread across the entire city of the capital. Design studios, brands, manufacturers, galleries and universities will organise their own programme events and open their premises to the public. The events will therefore take place where design, production, research and exhibitions occur.

Gründerinnen von Currents: Jasmin Jouhar und Laura Ewert Die erste Ausgabe von Currents. Design in Berlin findet vom 10. bis 12. September 2026 statt: Das dezentral angelegte Festival verteilt sich über das gesamte Stadtgebiet der Hauptstadt. Designstudios, Marken, Hersteller, Galerien und Hochschulen gestalten eigene Programmpunkte und öffnen ihre Räume für das Publikum. Die Veranstaltungen finden somit dort statt, wo entworfen, produziert, geforscht und ausgestellt wird.

Enric Ruiz Geli: Für uns Architektinnen und Architekten ist es entscheidend, den Dialog mit den Naturwissenschaften zu suchen und Fachwissen aus den Bereichen Stadtplanung und nachhaltiges Denken einzubeziehen. Die Wissenschaft und die akademische Welt sind unsere stärksten Triebkräfte.

Media-ICT, Barcelona Anna Moldenhauer: You are currently in the United States. What are you working on? Enric Ruiz Geli: For us architects, it’s crucial to seek dialogue with the sciences and to incorporate expertise from urban planning and sustainable thinking. The scientific and academic fields are the strongest drivers we have. However, there has been a separation between the two fields: academia was considered the brain and industry the muscle. That’s not an ideal situation.
