Commercial Avenue between 12th and 11th streets is set to close for about two days starting at about 7 a.m. Monday, according to the city of Anacortes. During the temporary closure, construction contractor Colacurcio Brothers, Inc. plans to address “the bump” — or roadway grade transition — just south of 11th Street on Commercial Avenue that was left behind when the contractor repaved the roadway last year.

A South Carolina police officer died and a second was injured in a “gunfight” Saturday in a park, following a call about a domestic dispute, Columbia police Chief W.H. “Skip” Holbrook said. The suspect, a 33-year-old man with a lengthy criminal record, also died, Holbrook said at a news conference in the capital city. The deceased officer, 29-year-old Christopher DeLong, had been with the police department for two years and leaves behind a wife and two young children, Holbrook said.

DHADING, Nepal (AP) — Authorities in Nepal are warning of possible fresh flooding on Sunday and urged residents in flood-affected districts to remain on high alert after water levels rose in the Bhotekoshi River. Flood warning notices were sent to people's phones throughout Sunday morning, as rescue crews worked to clear a major highway connecting Kathmandu to one of the areas worst-hit by Wednesday's catasrophic floods.
