Today, the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) announced the recipients of its 2026 recognition program, honoring SWE members, SWE groups, and organizations for their accomplishments that advance the STEM fields and support SWE’s mission to empower women in engineering and technology. The 2026 honorees represent a wide range of contributions across industry, academia, technical leadership, advocacy, and SWE.

At the Society of Women Engineers, we are delighted to share the achievements of accomplished women engineers from the Hispanic community who are inspiring others in their STEM journey. Join SWE in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and cheering on these talented individuals and their contributions. Joan Melendez Misner A senior spacecraft systems integration engineer at NASA, Joan Melendez Misner works with the Launch Services Program, launching scientific payloads on commercial launch vehicles.

The growing number of engineering disciplines and roles today show that no one professional journey is the same. In SWE’s A Day in the Life series, hear from an inspiring woman engineer and SWE member about their path to engineering success and their insights into the future of STEM professions worldwide. Shravya Boini, a SWE member living in Minnesota, is a senior engineer at Target. She is a SWE professional member and part of the SWE Minnesota community.

In Latino culture, la familia is at the heart of everything. Family provides a sense of identity, belonging, resilience, and unconditional love. It is often our greatest source of support and the foundation upon which our values are built. Yet, alongside that love comes a reality many of us know all too well — the weight of expectation. For generations, family has been the bridge that preserves our language, traditions, values, and cultural pride.

It was an honor to speak at the University of Technology, Jamaica, for a women in engineering event earlier this year, hosted in collaboration with the Jamaica Institution of Engineers Student Chapter. The gathering brought together students, academics, and professionals to reflect on the evolving role of women in engineering and the importance of inclusive professional spaces. Across Jamaica and globally, women in engineering continue to make meaningful progress.

I expected an interesting session and an opportunity to connect with colleagues, but I discovered much more: a community.

Community college students are often excluded from conversations around broadening participation in STEM, particularly in the fields of engineering and computer science (ECS). To better understand this issue and provide a solution, SWE conducted a phased research study of ECS transfer students to understand the success of women and minority students on this pathway towards a baccalaureate degree.

The “Her Stories: Adventures in STEM” blog series is a collection of stories about 20 women in science and engineering fields, written by members of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Pre-College Working Group. These inspiring women have experienced a variety of life experiences and career paths, and these stories and accompanying artwork help to capture the vast diversity of our featured scientists and engineers.
