Lord Selkirk Bridge in Wallaceburg to remain closed to vehicles until Sept. 25
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is advising residents that the Lord Selkirk Bridge in Wallaceburg will remain closed to vehicular traffic for public safety until Sept. 25, 2026. The bridge remains open to pedestrians. Currently, both the Lord Selkirk Bridge and the Dundas Bridge are not operable for marine traffic requiring the bridge to open. Municipal staff are working to develop and implement the repair to address the mechanical issue and safely reopen the bridge to vehicular traffic.
Candidates reminded of rules for election sign placement near roads
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is reminding candidates and residents about the rules for placing election campaign signs near roadways. As of Aug. 27, 2026, candidates are allowed to place campaign signs on certain municipal property. All signs must follow the Municipality’s Election Campaign Sign By-law. Municipal staff are monitoring sign placement and responding to concerns reported by the public.
Wheatley yard waste depot to offer extended weekend hours for storm cleanup
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is advising residents of Wheatley and the surrounding area that the Romney Leaf and Yard Depot will be open for special hours this weekend to assist with cleanup following the recent storm. The depot will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday to accept brush and yard debris resulting from the storm. The Romney Leaf and Yard Depot is located at 22022 Wheatley Road in the community of Romney.

Man charged after spitting incident leads to foot chase in Chatham
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Chatham-Kent police have charged a Chatham man with assault after an altercation at a Grand Avenue West business led to a brief foot pursuit. Police were called to the business on Thursday, Sept. 3, at approximately 9:02 a.m. after receiving a report of an assault. Officers learned that a man had spit on an employee before leaving the area on foot. A short time later, police located the man.
