Do you hear that? It’s the sound of music. While there is no shortage of things to do in our slice of Island paradise, summer around here is all about the music. Live outdoor concerts and festivals are where it’s at, with parks, waterfronts, and open-air stages coming alive with incredible local and visiting artists. From the Guest Editor … My mind is on tapas, tacos and tequila as the March edition of Take 5 Magazine hits the streets. Must admit I am mourning the loss of the Maya Norte restaurant in Ladysmith after it ceremoniously closed its doors on Feb. 28. Culinary luminaries Anne Manning and Peg Montgomery introduced the restaurant to Ladysmith in 2017 and added a comfortable patio in 2019. With change comes new opportunities.
April 2026 - TAKE 5
FROM THE GUEST EDITOR If I remember anything from my mornings in January, February and March at TAKE 5 Newsmagazine, it will be the wide smile and heart-warming greetings from Nadine Wong as I stepped into the office. It is said people remember not what was said to them over the years, but how they treated you. As Nadine announced her well-deserved ‘retirement’ from three years of sales and marketing at the magazine in March, I felt a tinge of nostalgia.

Wow, wasn’t that a party? The excitement was palpable as thousands gathered to take in the festivities at this year’s Festival of Lights Light Up. They were there for the market, the music, the street entertainers, and the Kinsmen’s parade, but the first public drone show on Vancouver Island was what most buzzed the streets with excitement. The drone show featured a fantastic display of synchronized drones creating seasonal images in the sky set to music.

For almost 29 years we have been using Canada Post as our number one distribution system. It was a decision we made with our second issue back in July 1997. This marks the second time in less than a year that we have had to pivot quickly to ensure TAKE 5 Newsmagazine distribution happens in a timely manner. But a lot has changed since 1997. TAKE 5 online edition is available readily and is delivered in a monthly email- along with a curated selection of local events as an extra bonus.
