Talkhouse
VerifiedOnline/Digital
Artists talk about their own work all the time, but they rarely get to talk about other people’s work. That’s what the Talkhouse is all about: smart, distinguished artists from the worlds of music and film, of all genres and generations, writing about the latest releases. And there’s a twist: the artist who’s being written about is encouraged to respond to the piece. The idea is to promote dialogue between creators who may never have interacted otherwise. Talkhouse readers can have a ringside seat to this unique exchange, or they can join the conversation too, in our moderated comments section. Source

On Being Fired - Talkhouse
Being fired is a universal experience. A few weeks ago, I was on the set of an indie film called Cabbage, working with T.R. Knight and a young actor named Matthew Eby. We were a few days away from the final day of filming, and Matthew made a wisecrack about being fired (knowing at this stage of the film, none of us could be), followed by a comment indicating what a crazy thing that would be, to be fired off a movie.

Finding Dory with Zach Cherry
Have you seen Dory? We have! Zach Cherry joins us to talk about 2016's Finding Dory, a film that made a kajillion dollars and set off a run of four Pixar sequels in a row. In this episode, we're talking about Ellen DeGeneres, animating characters without mouths, the success of Modern Family, live action remakes of already live action films, and Zach's proposed future spinoffs for the Nemo franchise.
805: Real Talk About Drinks Writing and Trend-Chasing Bars with Echo Lake’s Chloe Frechette
Chloe Frechette spent nearly a decade as executive editor at Punch, the James Beard Award–winning drinks media brand, writing seriously about cocktails and the culture around them. Then she did what most drinks writers most certainly do not do: she opened a bar. Echo Lake and Undercurrent, her two-story rum destination in Williamsburg with partner Paul McGee, opened this spring—one a breezy daiquiri bar, the other an intimate den of rare and vintage spirits.
When Art Finally Catches Up to You
May, 2026. Oregon City, Oregon. I’ve got to be honest with you about where I’m at. I’m a new parent and life has changed. Things like responding to an email used to take me 10 minutes. Now it can take me three days. So … I started this essay in December and am only now completing it. I’m learning to let this be OK.
Introducing: Slowspin’s “Phantom Weight”
By Fall I had been doom-scrolling much more than usual. Falling deeper into a self-induced state of hypnosis, my eyesight deteriorated into rapid-fire images: cheese, floral arrangements, genocide, throwing clay, spinning wool, AI-generated studies of the body, blood, fertility, deities, instruments, ear canals, travel guides, music blogs, spiritual texts, self-care, self-help, ab workouts, false prophets, protests, and you.
Mood Board: Born At Midnite’s Eternal BAM Nation
Mood Board is our column where artists share a few of the things that inspired their new record. This time, Amery Sandford and David Carriere, aka the Montreal duo Born At Midnite, tell us how Facebook Marketplace, Gremlins, and more helped shape their new record Eternal BAM Nation — out now on Arbutus Records. — Annie Fell, Editor-in-chief, Talkhouse Music 1.
804: Toby Maloney Made Half a Million Cocktails. Emma Janzen Was Taking Notes.
Bartender and author Toby Maloney has made somewhere north of half a million cocktails over thirty-plus years, from Milk & Honey and Pegu Club to the Violet Hour in Chicago and the Elbow Room in Vancouver, Washington. His new book with coauthor and drinks journalist Emma Janzen, The Classic Cocktail Sessions, is a deep-dive master class on 61 classic drinks: not their histories but their inner workings.
