Cerritos College Talon Marks

LAUSD is facing a huge problem with their teacher staff and now non-teachers, staff and administrators will join in on a strike April Tuesday 14, 2026. Demanding an increase in pay and a better, stable environment not just for themselves but for students. This strike will continue as long if the union and district don’t agree with a deal by Monday 13, 2026. Right after that deadline the district warned families that schools could fully shut down, and unions said they were ready to walk out.

As the Associated Students of Cerritos College (ASCC) elections unfolded, Talon Marks faced a difficult but necessary decision: to remain neutral in our coverage. This choice was tough as well as challenging, but it was made with the integrity of our newsroom in mind and the responsibility we owe to our readers. Staying impartial was not easy. Our staff, like many on campus, held strong opinions about the candidates and the issues shaping Cerritos College’s future.

On March 28, protesters gathered for yet another “No Kings” protest. The protests are against current President Donald Trump and his administration. Dozens gathered with handmade signs, chants, megaphones and even cars with chalk art. For this particular protest, it happened in the city of Whittier, a city already fighting a battle with its current mayoral board. The protests were held all over the country and even places you wouldn’t expect, such as Redding, California.

Ye, popularly known as Kanye West, has always been a big influence not only in the music scene but to the fashion scene as well. Despite his most recent controversial antisemitic comments in the past couple years, his legacy on culture and music production will continue to live on and should not be overshadowed.

Artemis II became the first human trip around the moon in more than 50 years and it showed that NASA’s return to deep space was working. This flight showed that NASA could send people far from earth, keep them safe and bring them home. It marked a major step toward putting humans back on the moon in the next mission and helped the public see that this new program was moving forward in a real, steady way. Artemis II was a 10-day trip that sent four astronauts around the moon and back.

With a staggering 170 verified votes, Julio Adam Sosa-Diaz and Leon Francisco Basilio Mateo won the election race for ASCC President and Vice President. Carmela Fabian won the race for Student Trustee race with 146 verified votes. The Spring 2026 election was opened from April 7 and officially concluded on April 8 at 11:55 p.m. on the college’s app FalConnect.

About the Contributor Ángel Sánchez is returning for the Spring 2026 semester as the sports editor for Talon Marks. Ángel has also been named the managing editor and will oversee all production for the publication. In his free time he consumes baseball content, but also enjoys watching films and comedy. In hopes of transferring to a four-year university after Cerritos, Ángel’s biggest goal is to one day cover baseball for a major publication and join the BBWAA.
