Coupland’s inexperience showed early as the Cowboys fell behind 44-7 at halftime. The Rams used a strong rushing attack to pull away for the blowout victory. Taylor rolls past Burnet, moves to 2-0 Carter Bordwell Today, 09:56 PM Author: Photo by Larry Pelchat BURNET -- The Taylor Ducks varsity football team picked up a 49-30 victory over the Burnet Bulldogs on Friday, Sept. 4, at Burnet High School. Junior quarterback Johnny Guzman accounted for six touchdowns, scoring twice on the ground and throwing four touchdown passes to sophomore wide receiver Jeremiah Caldwell.

A large data center and gas power plant slated to go up just outside of Taylor will move forward without seeking a partnership with the city, at least for now. On Sept. 3, Taylor officials announced the developer of Project Mustang withdrew an application for annexation and will build without going through city channels. “Because the property sits outside city limits, Taylor currently has no authority to stop this project or regulate how it's developed,” according to a post from the city.

A unique dining event involving student chefs, a worthy cause and culinary delights dished up dollars for a local nonprofit that provides widespread community support. Billed as Table on Talbot, the experience — which also honored Taylor’s 150th birthday — recently resulted in a check for $6,000 going to the Greater Taylor Community Foundation.

HUTTO — The Hutto Lady Hippos varsity volleyball team fell in straight sets, 3-0, to the Stony Point Tigers on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Hutto High School. The Lady Hippos battled throughout the opening set but fell 25-22. Stony Point pulled away in the second set, handing Hutto a 25-16 loss before the Tigers closed out the match with a 25-20 victory in the third set. Junior outside hitter Elania Dodds and senior hitter Lola Polsley led the Lady Hippos with six kills apiece.

Prisons across Texas are again feeling the heat this summer, creating dangerous conditions for the inmates — most of whom are nonviolent offenders — serving their time before re-entering society, as well those who must report every day to work in those sweltering environs.
