SK Hynix frees up around €25bn for share buyback
In an attempt to boost its market valuation, SK Hynix has announced a share buyback programme worth 40 trillion won, roughly €25 billion. After a period of unprecedented profits in the second quarter, the South Korean semiconductor giant plans to repurchase 24.1 million of its own shares from Thursday until 19 November. These shares will then be cancelled in order to increase the overall value for investors.

ECB warns that AI boom could lead to global stock market crash
The European Central Bank (ECB) has expressed its concern that the current sharp rise in investments in AI may be unsustainable, which could lead to a stock market crash with global consequences. While American companies continue to invest heavily in AI infrastructure, a group of ECB researchers have suggested that a financial correction is likely, as market valuations have reached levels reminiscent of historical peaks.
ChatGPT ads are being rolled out to 31 European countries
OpenAI is expanding its advertising reach by introducing ChatGPT Ads in 31 European countries. This follows a six-month trial period that began in the United States and was extended to eight other regions. Initially, brands can use the platform through partner agencies, technology partners or the OpenAI ads solutions group. Later this summer, the launch of a self-service tool, Ads Manager, is expected.

Irish Venture Capital and Private Equity Association gets new chairperson
Richard Watson, managing partner of Furthr VC, has been elected chairperson of the Irish Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (IVCA). He replaces Caroline Gaynor, partner, Lightstone Ventures, who has completed her term of office. The IVCA is the representative organisation for venture capital and private equity firms on the island of Ireland. Last year, VC investment into Irish tech start-ups and SMEs, which totalled €1.1 billion, fell for the first time since 2018.
Netflix and Prime Video share top spot in Irish streaming market
Netflix and Amazon Prime Video each accounted for 22% of Ireland’s subscription video-on-demand market in the second quarter of 2026, according to figures from streaming guide JustWatch. The figures show a closely fought market at the top, with Disney+ only one percentage point behind the two leaders on 21%. However, the strongest growth story came from Apple TV+, which reached 13%, up five percentage points compared with the second quarter of 2025.
