Artificial intelligence will transform how people work, but the leaders of Nvidia, OpenAI and Salesforce are rejecting the idea that increasingly capable machines will make human workers irrelevant. The future of work emerged as a recurring theme at Dreamforce in San Francisco this week, where Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman joined Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff for separate conversations about the next phase of enterprise AI.

Canadian students and recent graduates will gain new opportunities to work on advanced manufacturing technologies through an expanded partnership between Mitacs and Next Generation Manufacturing Canada. The organizations have announced a two-year partnership that will support 60 internships within industry-led research and development projects across Canada.

Calgary-based Neo Financial has laid off 102 employees as the fintech reduces organizational complexity and concentrates its resources on fewer products. The cuts represent approximately 10 per cent of Neo’s workforce and affected nearly every part of the company.

Montreal-based industrial automation company Vention is expanding its artificial intelligence team with the opening of a new Physical AI Lab focused on bringing advanced robotics into real-world manufacturing environments. Canadian software company Motion is adding new employees as it responds to growing demand for its AI-powered marketing platform. The remote-first company is recruiting across engineering, customer success, sales, marketing, product and design. Current opportunities include Senior Software Engineer positions focused on backend and infrastructure, along with an executive-level individual contributor role in engineering.

The formerly commonplace notion of someone starting a position with a company out of school and staying there for decades, steadily climbing the ranks until retirement, is already quite outdated. New data from ADP Research’s Canada Pay Insights continues to show us why. Base pay for “job-stayers” in Canada is up 3% year-over-year. That’s barely keeping up with inflation, and the figure is also well below the pay difference for “job-changers”—nearly 6%.
