“Menopause is a biological inevitability. Half the population will experience it,” says neuroscientist Nahid Zokaei, who in her startup Cerebella is creating tech to ease menopause brain fog. “There is always going to be a need. Unfortunately, we haven’t addressed it until now”. Zokaei, a former Oxford researcher and Chief of Science at Brain+, a Danish digital therapeutics firm, is determined to change that.
Women's health and femtech is no longer niche
Since 2024’s TechBBQ, when Femtech Studios launched from their Femtech Stage, and UVISA Health won the Life Science Pitching Competition at the Life Science Stage at last year’s TechBBQ, the femtech scene at this year’s TechBBQ was packed with people wanting to know more. Under the title “No longer niche: The $1 trillion femtech opportunity”, the femtech panel debate at the Tech Stage got more questions in the Slido app than there was time to answer.

Menopause 2.0 conference was a global wake-up call
Hosted by “Women of Wearables,” the Menopause 2.0 global event gathered startup founders, clinicians, corporate representatives, and legal experts to reframe menopause from a private struggle to a public priority. One message rang out across keynote talks and panel discussions: women over 40 are demanding better—and they’re not waiting quietly.
Retention is the make-or-break factor in women’s health tech
Attracting thousands of downloads is no longer enough; keeping those users engaged over the long haul is now crucial. If engagement drops off after the initial excitement, there’s no steady stream of real-world data or health improvements to show. No retention means no real data and no reason for anyone to invest or reimburse. Trusted Partner Jens Stensgaard Jakobsen, CEO of Chiron, is the author of this article.
Smart jewellery to protect against harassment
“Text me when you’re home” is a message that has become all too ingrained in the lives of notably young women in recent years as more accounts of violence against women reach the general public. WHO estimates that around 736 million women, almost one in three women around the world aged 15 or older, have experienced physical and or sexual intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both at least once in their lives.
