Jahmir Young is making his case for a roster spot for the Miami Heat this summer. Surrounded by teammates wearing jerseys numbered in the 60s and 70s, Young has taken the NBA Summer League by storm. His latest outing saw him drop 30 points and 12 rebounds in the Heat’s 99-90 loss to the Toronto Raptors. Young shot 12-of-24 from the field and 5-of-13 from 3-point range while also contributing three assists, two steals and a block across 33 minutes.

Former Maryland men’s lacrosse standout Brett Makar continues to standout in his fourth PLL season, currently leading all players in key defensive metrics. Makar has been a brick wall for the New York Atlas in 2026, causing 17 turnovers and grabbing 31 ground balls while also notching three points in just seven games this season. He leads defenders in each of those statistics thus far this season. However, despite Makar’s contributions, New York has struggled in 2026.

Five former Maryland women’s lacrosse players took the field in Saturday’s WLL matchup between the Maryland Charm and the New York Charging, with several Terps’ alumni playing key roles in the Charm’s 16-15 victory. Erica Evans bagged a pair of first-quarter goals in the midst of the 16-goal scoring barrage. But the two-way midfielder was also influential in gaining extra possessions, totaling four ground balls and causing a turnover.

Over the weekend, the United States named its 20-person roster for the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup, and two former Terps will be playing for Team USA — with one special distinction. Leah Crouse, who played her graduate year with Maryland in 2022, is one of the athletes named. Now plying her club trade with Tokyo Hockey, the 26-year-old Crouse has earned 72 caps for the women’s national team and will be counted on at the highest level.

A pair of Maryland baseball’s brightest stars got their flowers Sunday, as Lance Williams and Brayden Martin were both selected on the second day of the 2026 MLB Draft. Williams was the first Terp off the board — he was selected in the eighth round as the 247th pick by the Chicago Cubs, the same organization where former Maryland standout Matt Shaw is rostered.

While the start of Maryland men’s basketball’s season is still months away, its 2026-27 opponents are likely finalized. Five additional home nonconference games were added to the Terps’ schedule on Thursday. Maryland is set to host Bucknell on Nov. 2 for the program’s first meeting in two years. Although Maryland has won all nine previous meetings, several have been competitive, including a two-point Terps victory in 2017.

Maryland football starter Dontay Joyner has not been with the team since June 11, when he was placed in jail for misdemeanor charges. On Wednesday, after he pleaded guilty to those phone harassment charges, he was released on time served. As first reported by Jeff Ermann, Joyner’s time spent in jail was extended from its initial period because, while he was ordered not to contact his girlfriend, he called her from jail.

Coming off an unexpected rise to prominence midway through the 2025-26 NBA season, Julian Reese begins his next chapter in professional basketball. The Maryland men’s basketball alum will return to the Washington Wizards for the 2026 NBA Summer League. Reese came in on the backend of Washington’s season but quickly made an impact. He played in 13 games and started in 10 of them, averaging 11.8 points and 10.5 rebounds on 30.9 minutes per game.

Nearly 48 hours after adding three-star wide receiver Kyren Caldwell, Maryland football landed its top class of 2027 offensive talent. The Terps secured the commitment of four-star wide receiver Myles McAfee, becoming the program’s sixth recruit in the position group. He chose Maryland over Virginia Tech and more than 20 other schools. The Archbishop Spalding product will reunite with several former teammates, including quarterback Malik Washington.

Maryland football earned the commitment of three-star class of 2027 wide receiver Kyren Caldwell on Saturday, celebrating the holiday with a receiver they hope can create some fireworks in College Park. Caldwell’s commitment is a big win for the Terps — the Florida native chose Maryland over Alabama, Auburn and Mississippi State.
