That's It LA

I finally visited the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, and wow… the architecture really is something. Designed by Ma Yansong of MAD Architects, the building feels almost like it landed here from another planet. It’s futuristic, but somehow fits right into Exposition Park. Ma talked about being inspired by the huge tree canopies in LA and wanting the building to create curiosity, emotion and a sense of discovery.

After years of anticipation, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is finally opening its doors—and I had the chance to get a first look during the press preview. And my first thought? There is a lot here! I mean that in the best possible way.

“Toy Story” has always been a series about a child’s plaything experiencing some sort of existential crisis.

Ridley Scott’s “The Dog Stars” has everything it needs to be a fascinating post-apocalyptic survivalist flick. There’s a great cast led by Jacob Elordi and Margaret Qualley, alongside Josh Brolin, Guy Pearce, Alison Janney, and Benedict Wong, as well as majestic shots of Italy doubling for a post-apocalyptic Colorado. But a weak story, combined with Brolin and Pearce overshadowing the film’s leads, prevents “The Dog Stars” from becoming as compelling as it could have been.

The End of Oak Street may look like a dino-sized survival thriller set in 1980s suburbia, but there’s much more to David Robert Mitchell’s latest film than what the trailers have advertised. Beneath all the prehistoric chaos is an emotional story about a broken family that has to learn how to come together before they become dinner.

“Star Wars: Visions” gave audiences a new way to experience the galaxy far, far away, inviting acclaimed animation studios from Japan and around the world to tell stories outside the franchise’s traditional canon. Now, the project is expanding beyond its anthology format with “Star Wars: Visions Presents” a series of standalone spin-offs that will allow stories first introduced as shorts to continue through longer-form storytelling.

Spend a summer evening dancing beneath the soaring ceilings of historic Los Angeles Union Station during KCRW Summer Nights, a free, all-ages celebration of music, art, and community. On Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Union Station’s iconic Ticket Concourse will come alive with an incredible lineup of live music and DJ sets. Catch the hypnotic grooves of RIO KOSTA before the band heads out on a world tour with Jungle this fall.

Will Gluck’s “One Night Only” is essentially The Purge reimagined as a romantic comedy, where instead of all crime being legal for one night, it is premarital sex. Or, perhaps more accurately, it is The Sex Purge. (From left) Allie (Monica Barbaro) and Owen (Callum Turner) in ONE NIGHT ONLY, directed by Will Gluck. While the premise is absurd, the connections our two central characters forge over the film’s brisk 102-minute runtime are sincere.

AUGUST 1 Maum Market is an outdoor marketplace bringing together Asian-owned brands, local creators, and makers for a day of shopping, food, and community at ROW DTLA. I love discovering new small businesses, especially Asian-owned ones, that I may not have otherwise learned about. One of my favorite things about exploring LA is finding new artists, creators, and small businesses and sharing these hidden gems with others.

It’s hard to watch a hero like Spider-Man wallow in such sadness, especially knowing how much he has sacrificed, not only for the city he loves but also for the people he loves. Destin Daniel Cretton’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” examines the life of Peter Parker, that kid from Queens who now has to navigate a world where no one remembers him and the people he once loved have moved on without him.
