An initiative paid by Watson Ranch developer Terry McGrath would allow Marcus Road to be connected to Watson Lane to gain access to Highway 29. Watson Lane residents have voiced their concerns about the Watson Lane option for years. A measure to give landlocked Watson Ranch direct access to Highway 29 could advance to the November ballot after approximately 2,200 signatures supporting the initiative were delivered to City Hall on May 18, according to City Manager Jason Holley.

About a quarter of an acre of grass burned along with other vegetation, said Laura Provencher, spokeswoman for the American Canyon Fire Protection District.

The recurring question was: What can we do to help? Four years ago, I wrote a column about my newly planted Ceanothus ‘Concha.’ I had chosen large plants over less costly small ones because, at my age, deferred gratification didn’t make much sense. Well, I am still here, and so are my Ceanothus, which are now four feet tall and three feet wide and currently serving as a food source for birds. They bloomed early, after an odd winter that included lots of rain and a heat wave. Ceanothus ‘Concha’ is an easy-to-grow hybrid of a California native plant.

A 36-year-old Sacramento woman was killed Tuesday in a motorcycle crash on Highway 12 east of Kelly Road in south Napa County. Brittany Racquel Rankins, whose birthday was Tuesday, was riding in the back of the motorcycle, traveling east on Highway 12 at about 1:50 p.m., when the motorcycle collided with a black Honda Accord, according to the California Highway Patrol and the Napa County Coroner’s Office. The Honda Accord was in the right-hand lane.

Dear Readers, Many questions have arisen since the announcement last week by Highway 29’s CEO Marc Hand that he is stepping away from the company on May 31. Highway 29 is the publisher of the American Canyon Current. While we don’t have answers to all the questions, we can share with you what we do know: Hand has told us that May 22 is the last day Highway 29 will publish the Calistoga Tribune, Yountville Sun, American Canyon Current and Napa County Times.
