The Anderson Valley Advertiser is a small weekly tabloid published in Anderson Valley, California. It was founded in 1955 as a local, community-based paper. The AVA's masthead features mottoes borrowed from the French Revolution and the Industrial Workers of the World:
Fanning the Flames of Discontent! (The IWW's Little Red Songbook is sub-titled "To Fan the Flames of Discontent")
Peace to the Cottages! War on the Palaces! (The motto of Georg Büchner's Hessian Courier)

The Grocery Outlet located at 1718 S. Main Street in Willits, CA before the earthquake (MendoLocal.News CC BY 4.0) The Grocery Outlet in Willits will remain closed for the foreseeable future after a recent earthquake caused major structural damage to a critical support column inside the building. SARA MCKEEVER is feeling incomplete. Reflecting on the last 4 days back at home with my family. Gosh I already miss them and wish I was there still. "Those we love never truly leave us. They leave imprints in on our hearts, lessons in our minds, and love that continues to shape the way we live." Not everyone leaves behind that kind of impact like my uncle Eddy (Walker) did. The pain we are carrying right now is a reflection of how much he meant to not only family but friends.
ED WALKER (Log Truck Driver who died in the accident in Navarro on Wednesday) I want to thank everyone who has called and reached out to us. To be completely honest I have no words. A piece of my soul is missing and I want to wake up from this nightmare. My dad was the greatest man I’ve ever known and if you had the privilege to have met him you'd know how amazing he was. Please pray for us, and if you are able to help in any way we would greatly appreciate it.
Topics of interest: 1) Mo Mulheren will apparently be retiring from the county board of supervisors, which can only mean she has a government sinecure already lined up in Sacramento. It also means there is the clear and present danger Mari Rodin (aka “Wonder Woman”) will be running for Second District Supervisor. 2) People are appalled at a World Wrestling extravaganza held at the White House, whereas a big French Opera would have been applauded as more fitting.

Discovering the “Northern California Doghole Ports Maritime Cultural Landscape” document was this historian’s unexpected surprise recently-all 80 pages of it. A proposal in 2021 to the National Park Service it investigated the lumber industry in Mendocino and Sonoma Counties from 1865-1940. The document writers hoped to obtain placement on the National Register of Historic Places designation at sites where land and ocean meet. What, you might ask, makes a cultural landscape?
LAST WEEK’S EARTHQUAKE MARK SCARAMELLA: Lots of Boonville locals felt it. One said he was in his car which reportedly made it seem worse. For a few seconds it felt like the land the house was on had come unmoored and was floating in a sea of rocking waves. Wherever it was centered would probably be quite a shake. I’ve heard varying accounts of the duration. In Boonville it was less than ten seconds, others says up to one minute.
In my previous article on the three major, unpredictable forces of nature — wildfire, wind and earthquake — in Anderson Valley, I focused on wildfire and wind and my experiences during my valley years, from the late 1950s to the late 1980s. As promised, this article will delve into the valley’s other force of nature: earthquake. Despite proximity to the San Andreas Fault, Anderson Valley rarely experiences earthquakes.

Inland areas will see warm afternoon temperatures over the weekend and early next week before a building high pressure ridge brings hotter conditions to the interior valleys by mid-week.
Lame-Duck Supervisor Maureen Mulheren was reported to have said on Tuesday that “the Master Tax Sharing Agreement was negotiated over several years by the county and its incorporated cities to provide a predictable framework for future annexations.” This self-serving claim is typical of Mulheren. The Master Tax Sharing Agreement was negotiated by Mulheren and Ukiah, not “the County and its incorporated cities.” The negotiations were held in secret and did not include any county officials.
