The festive Fourth of July drew large crowds celebrating at events citywide throughout the day, but as night fell it became havoc as multiple incidents were reported including a young girl being burned by fireworks set off. According to the Bisbee Police Department (BPD) just before the city sponsored fireworks were scheduled to be set off police received a report of rockets being set off in Vista Park which led to a young girl receiving burns to her leg.

New Owner of Belleza Gallery Is Carrying on the Torch
From Benson to Bisbee, artist Clement Scott has been carving his path on the local art scene since arriving in town in 2014. And after over 27 years in business, Belleza Gallery’s founder, Lou Anne Sterbick-Nelson, has handed over the reins to Scott. He officially took over ownership on May 16, allowing Sterbick-Nelson to move on and leave the gallery in good hands. The two met in 2014, and Scott quickly became a staple in Sterbick-Nelson’s life and in her art gallery.
Fourth of July Events: The Semiquincentennial Edition
This year’s Fourth of July celebration denotes a major anniversary in America’s independence that started in 1776. Focusing on the semiquincentennial – observing 250 years of our country’s freedom – Bisbee’s events will have a special significance this year. The annual town events will take place on Saturday, July 4, with the coaster races kicking off the momentous day. Originally held on Thanksgiving, they have been a tradition in Bisbee since 1914.

CQCH Celebrates Milestones At Topping-out Ceremony
To commemorate a major milestone in the construction of the new two-story, 35,000 square foot addition of the surgical and inpatient wing of the Copper Queen Community Hospital (CQCH), a topping-out ceremony took place on June 18 at the site. “This long-standing tradition marks the placement of the final beam and symbolizes how far we’ve come thanks to the dedication and teamwork of so many,” said Nathalie O’Shea, public relations & development manager at CQCH.
East Segment Shared Use Path Goes Out For Bid
Bids are now being accepted for the east segment portion of the Bisbee Bikeways Lavender Pit walking and bike path. The scope of the project includes roadway reconfiguration and construction of a shared-use path along SR 80 with related paving, drainage, concrete, striping, signage, and traffic control improvements. According to the bid notice sent by the city, the Engineer’s estimate have come in at $3,000,000 to $3,800,000.
