Spain launches the new European savings and investment account
Today, the Official State Gazette (BOE) published the creation of the new European savings and investment account, “Financia Europa,” which allows users to buy and sell shares and investment funds within a “tax shield” without paying taxes on every transaction. It functions as if each citizen could hold a private investment fund, albeit primarily restricted to investments in European assets. Each individual may hold only one account.
Government caps rents at 2% as inflation approaches 5% and allows tenants to stay for up to ten years
Government has approved a rent reform that caps rent increases at 2% in an effort to control prices. This comes on the same day it was revealed that inflation is approaching 5% due to the “change in economic scenario” caused by rising fuel costs across the economy.
Santander increases 2026 interim cash dividend by 10% to 12.7 cents
Banco Santander will pay an interim cash dividend against 2026 earnings of 12.7 euro cents per share, representing a 10% increase compared to the interim dividend paid last year. The dividend will be paid on November 2, 2026. This meets, and even exceeds, the forecasts made by Executive Chair Ana Botín at the annual general shareholders’ meeting.
Inflation in Spain surges to 4.9% in September
The advance indicator of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) published by the INE sets annual inflation at 4.9% in September, six-tenths higher than in August. Core inflation—which excludes energy and unprocessed food—also increases to 3.1%, confirming that the price rise is structural and affects the daily shopping basket. The HICP, the index comparable at the European level, reaches 5.0%.
Banco Sabadell has already repurchased more than 6% of its share capital this year
Banco Sabadell informed the CNMV that the amount paid for the shares repurchased up to September 25, 2026 under the Buyback Program amounts to EUR 220,875,483.01, representing approximately 66.73% of the maximum monetary amount of the Buyback Program, leaving approximately 33.27% of said amount pending execution. The total number of shares purchased under the current Buyback Program stands at 61,688,792 shares (representing 1.29% of the current share capital).
Number of mortgages drops (-3.5%), now with an average term of 26 years
According to data published today by the National Statistics Institute (INE) in its Mortgage Statistics report, 43,372 mortgages for home purchases were signed in July, down 3.5% compared to the same month in 2025, following the sharp increase of 10.8% recorded in June, when the number of transactions reached its highest level for that month since 2010.
AIRBUS Recalls 250 A321 Aircraft
According to a report by “The Air Current,” AIRBUS has warned its customers about a quality defect detected in the fuselage structure of its A321neo aircraft. The issue affects approximately 500 aircraft from the European manufacturer—250 already delivered and another 250 currently in production or awaiting delivery—though it poses no safety risk.
