Aside from quotes, of course, all content in this project — text, photos, audio, video — are created by me. I work with local journalists and fixers as well as friends and friends of friends who work in industries from government to humanitarian aid to academia to the arts and more.

Consider that border crossed: From Lviv, with love
I was the only foreigner on the bus across the Polish-Ukrainian border. I was also one of only two passengers to get off the bus once we reached Lviv. And after a day spent here in Lviv, I have not read or heard a word of English (save the Christmas songs on in the cafe where I got breakfast this morning). It’s felt quite alone so far. But I’ve found myself quite attached to Lviv in other ways.
Karaoke and chess: Reflections on Kraków
As I write this, I’m standing outside of a bar in old town Kraków called “Chicago.” I initially went in out of amusement; I spent much of my childhood in Chicago, a city which prides itself on the claim of having “the most Poles outside of Warsaw” (false, but cute).
