A Stuart woman reported missing Wednesday morning was found deceased later that evening, according to Patrick County Sheriff Dan Smith. Jeanette Moxley, 72, left her residence on Salem Highway on foot earlier Wednesday and had not returned, Smith said. A call was made to the Patrick County 911 Communications Center at approximately 10 a.m. from the residence at 128 Salem Highway. Smith said Moxley had serious underlying health issues. Deputies immediately began searching for Moxley.

The midway at last year’s Patrick County Agricultural Fair featured rides and games. The 72nd annual Patrick County Agricultural Fair will be held Tuesday, Sept. 15, through Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Rotary Club Fairgrounds in Stuart. The event is sponsored by Patrick County Tourism, the Rotary Club of Stuart, Clark Gas & Oil, ValleyStar Credit Union, and Autos by Nelson.

The 18-room Blue Ridge Mountain Inn is located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Meadows of Dan. The Blue Ridge Mountain Inn, formerly the Blue Ridge Motel, in Meadows of Dan is under new management. James and Anita Watts purchased the 18-room motel just off the Blue Ridge Parkway in January. James Watts said an adjacent property, which his wife’s family owns, helped put the motel on their radar when it came up for sale.

The Patrick County Board of Supervisors scheduled a joint public hearing with the Planning Commission to consider a modification to the existing subdivision ordinance for September 28. The Patrick County Board of Supervisors will hold a joint public hearing with the Planning Commission on Sept. 28 to consider changes to the county’s subdivision ordinance, including increasing the maximum lot size from two acres to five acres.

A tractor-trailer driver was injured Sept. 1 after the vehicle struck a Patrick County Public Schools bus on U.S. 58 at Trot Valley Road. Virginia State Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Richard Garletts said the crash was reported at 8:09 a.m. and involved a tractor-trailer and a school bus. “The tractor-trailer claims the loss of brakes and struck the bus. The driver of the TT (tractor-trailer) was injured,” he said. The tractor-trailer driver was charged following the crash, Garletts said.

The funding, awarded by the Virginia Aviation Board, will support projects at 65 public-use airports across Virginia. Blue Ridge Regional Airport is among the largest recipients, with more than $5 million designated for its terminal project. The investments follow legislation signed by Spanberger earlier this year that updated the allocation formula for the Commonwealth Aviation Fund for the first time since its creation in 1986.

I grew up being taught to understand the nutritional benefits of the foods I ate.
