Share this story For more than 100 years, the Southeast Weld County Junior Fair and Rodeo in Keenesburg, Colorado, has been hosting youth livestock events and supporting kids – yet, unlike most county fairs, it’s a completely privately-funded event that operates solely on sponsorship dollars.

The Rawhide Ranch Rodeo, held in Lusk, Wyoming, held its inaugural event in 2025. A total of 63 teams vied for their share of $70,000 in prize money. “The prizes were good. The contestants were good. The horses were good. It was just an awesome event. Our crowd was the biggest crowd they’ve had in the stands for a long, long time.

The NFR Open at the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo is held in Colorado Springs, Colorado, which is a major national defense hub, with five military installations: Fort Carson (Army), Peterson Space Force Base, Schriever Space Force Base, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station.

It technically wasn’t, yet. Signing their names was the easy part. That binding declaration meant they signed their life on the line to defend the ground they stood on. Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died. Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.

A ranch kid from Camp Crook, South Dakota, Dahl grew up on a place built up from homestead era claims by both sets of grandparents starting in 1914. He was riding bulls at Eastern Montana College in Billings when he got the call that he had a free ticket to a tropical location – not of his choice.
