1 For her new series, Furious (premiering Monday, July 27th on Hulu on Disney+), actress and producer Emmy Rossum joins writer and showrunner Elizabeth Meriwether (The Dropout, Dying for Sex, New Girl) for a reinvention of the serial killer procedural thriller. In Furious, Rossum stars as Alice Black, a former NYPD detective who recently joined the FBI, with hopes of becoming a part of the sex crimes unit.

1 Grammy Award-winner JoJo, Punjabi hip hop star Raf-Saperra, Shaggy, and a “surprise international headliner,” will all make their CNE debuts alongside a lineup of Canadian icons this August in Toronto. The Canadian National Exhibition runs from August 21 to September 7 at Exhibition Place, and the long-running event features a fresh lineup for the Bell Soundstage, at the historic Bandshell.

1 Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is a dream come true for star Anson Mount, and it’s a role straight out of his childhood. “Star Trek was my make-believe game when I was 8 years old,” Mount said. “I think about that, and it makes me strangely emotional that I am now still playing the same make-believe game.” Mount stars as Captain Christopher Pike, the charismatic and sharp-minded leader of the USS Enterprise, exploring “strange new worlds” with a sense of humour that’s infectious.

1 William Woods makes the jump from producing some of Canada’s most notable independent films to making one of his own with the sci-fi thriller The Outer Threat, which hits Canadian theatres this weekend. With a notable list of credits to his name including Mean Dreams, Castle in the Ground, The Kid Detective, and The King Tide, Woods sets his first effort as a writer-director in an uncertain world facing numerous threats overlapping at the same time.

1 Christopher Nolan is one of the greatest filmmakers working today, and The Odyssey is his long-awaited, triumphant take on Homer’s classic tale of a hero trying to make his way home. Yes, Matt Damon was the obvious star for this film, obviously. Nolan adapted the 3,000 year old story to bring out new themes, using one scene as a key that unlocks Odysseus; and not only his character, but his whole journey.
