The NO SUCH THING AS TOO MUCH ART Society

What an empowering statement! Throughout history, and right this very minute, artists around the world are using their pens, pencils, paintbrushes, cameras, etc to turn their “rage into flowers”.

Well, there’s no obvious theme… but there is a pretty fantastic color palette starting to emerge! Aaaanywho, here are the five fabulous artists whose work stopped me mid-scroll this week: Cait McCormack(mixed-media fiber art, embroidered drywall with wallpaper); Sara Suppan(oil on canvas); Julie Henson(wigs, satin, metal armature, jewelry chain // satin gloves, foam, wood) ; Kristin Moore(acrylic on canvas) ; Jolie Ngo(glazed ceramic, 3D printing, lighting).

It was great joining Njideka Akunyili Crosby a gifted Nigerian-born, Los Angeles-based artist — to unveil our first portrait together. This piece reflects so many chapters of Michelle and my story, and we’re thrilled that it will be on display in the Hope and Change lobby at the Obama Presidential Center starting this Juneteenth.

So. Much. Thread! Yep, thread and a tiny bit of felt. This is the gorgeous and insanely meticulous work of Netherlands based artist Karola Pezarro, and this is her artist statement: “Threads of my practice : My work focuses on the fragility of life, the passage of time and the mysterious nature of memory.

I’m feeling a little a lot under the weather and I desperately need a pick me up… that’s where you come in by sharing your wins from the past week (that’ll work so much better than any bandaid every could). Thank you ~ Danielle xo ps.

Movement, depth, humor, beauty… all with black oil pastel on translucent vellum. The first time I wrote about Canadian artist Cathy Daley was way back in 2012… I loved her drawings immediately, and I’m sure you can see why.

Oooh, now that’s a lot of colorful work in a lot of different materials! Clearly there was a certain vibe that was stopping me mid-scroll this week.

Ummm, how has it taken me this long to gather a COLLECTION OF UNICORNS!?

I got stopped mid-scroll a lot this week… there are just so many amazing people making so much great work all over the world!
