Members of Ohio State’s Pokémon GO club are collectively celebrating birthdays, one month at a time. The club has launched a new monthly event called the Birthday Bash, giving students a space to socialize, engage in Pokémon-themed activities and compete in friendly competitions.

Ohio State’s College of Arts and Sciences is offering a new major this fall focused on American Sign Language — “American Sign Language (ASL): Applied Communication and Community Studies.” While previously offered only as a minor, the ASL website said there are three goals of this major: language proficiency, intercultural competence and cultural and historical knowledge.

Wisconsin has stood between Ohio State and a national championship in each of the past two seasons. This weekend, the Buckeyes got some payback. Ohio State swept the defending national champion Badgers, winning 2-1 Friday and 5-3 Saturday and earned its first sweep of Wisconsin since 2023.

Through the first five weeks of Ohio State football, head coach Ryan Day emphasized the need for special teams improvement. Leading up to Maryland was no different. “To say we have an identity on special teams right now, I can’t say that,” Day said Oct. 6. “We need to do a better job of the return game. Period.” On Saturday at Ohio Stadium, the unit showed some familiar weaknesses,  but also glimpses of hope, in the Buckeyes’ 45-16 win over Maryland.

Credit: Liam Ahern | Managing Photo Editor When it rains, it pours. Rain soaked Ohio Stadium Saturday and fans headed for the exits early, but the Buckeyes kept piling on the points. Despite a few miscues, the Buckeyes turned a 31-10 halftime lead into a 45-16 win over Maryland, extending their winning streak over the Terrapins to 10 games.

It had survived regulation and overtime. But when the game came down to three penalty shots, Rutgers goalkeeper Emily Nicholls stopped every one. The Buckeyes’ comeback ended there, as Rutgers escaped with a 3-2 win and Ohio State remained winless in Big Ten play.

For most homecoming queens, their reign is temporary. For Maudine Ormsby, the honor became a century-long legacy at Ohio State. Maudine, a Holstein cow known for her record-breaking milk production, was nominated for homecoming queen by agriculture students in 1926 and won the crown that year.
