With core surgery behind him, along with lingering concussion-like symptoms and a nasty groin injury, Tanev is fully healthy, ready to hit the reset button on his Leafs’ tenure and expected to play a major role for head coach Jim Hiller next season. Hiller’s going to love Tanev’s game, so expect to see the veteran blueliner play a significant top four role in 2026-27.

That’s where the conversation started on the latest summer edition of Leafs Morning Take. The full schedule will be released on Thursday, but it’s always fun to get a sprinkle of dates to come. Jeremiah Crowe has been hired by the Toronto Maple Leafs as director of player personnel, the team confirmed Wednesday. Crowe previously served as the director of professional scouting for the Buffalo Sabres from 2022-23 to 2025-26. The 40-year-old joined the Sabres as a pro scout for the 2017-18 season, after working a scout for the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL, and as the director of player personnel for the U.S. National Development Team Program.
