Ann died on September 20, 2020. Our family is grateful to now fulfill her wish to be laid to rest in her hometown of Leland, next to her parents, with all five of her nephews at her side as she returns home. Family and friends gathered for the burial of her cremated remains and a Memorial Mass on Saturday, August 1, 2026. Ann was born on June 16, 1929, at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. In 1930, her parents, Dr. Howard Johnson and Mrs.

Leland’s Military Wall of Honor will be officially dedicated with a special ceremony on August 29. The keynote speaker for the event will be Jeremiah Gipson, Colonel, USACE. Multiple Leland groups and individuals have invested their time, efforts and money into bring the project to life for the city, to serve as a tribute to the country’s patriotism and to honor veterans who have served in the U.S. Military.

Planters Bank employees Shelby Schumacher and Gaylynn Bailey McHann recently participated with the Washington County Library Financial Literacy Presentations. They read The Berenstain Bears Dollars and $en$e to students at the Leland Library. Students were given piggy banks, along with coloring books and crayons.

By Bob Garver The dialogue-free Road Runner/Wile E. Coyote cartoons are my favorite of the Looney Tunes. No jokes centered around annoying accents or speech impediments, just pure physical comedy about a hapless carnivore and his Ahab-like obsession with catching and eating a skinny flightless bird. Although the cartoons are ridiculous, they follow strict rules, outlined by creator Chuck Jones.

Through City and County efforts, the bridge that had fallen in Deer Creek last month has since been cleaned up. The sewer line was removed and will be replaced soon, and the debris from the bridge in the water has been removed and placed in roll off dumpsters. The Jim Henson Exhibit is currently utilizing a portable bathroom trailer until the full restoration of the sewage lines can be made.

As the summer begins to come to a close and students get prepared to go back to school, the Leland Park and Recreation’s “Field of Dreams” held its annual trophy ceremony for 2026. Throughout the summer, kids of different ages enjoyed one of America’s most favorite sports, baseball.

Recently, the Leland School District held a district wide open house at Leland School Park Gymnasium to start the new school year. The school district would like to thank all of the students, parents, staff, families, community members, and supporters who came out to the Back to School Open House/Pep Rally! The energy, excitement, and support that was provided made the event truly special.

The students and staff had a wonderful time welcoming Book Works to the classroom. The little learners enjoyed listening to the story The Crayons Go Back to School and getting excited about all the fun adventures in the book. As a way to encourage a love for reading beyond the classroom, each child received their very own personal copy to take home. Leland Early Learning is so thankful for opportunities like this that help the children build a lifelong love of books and learning.
