Guwahati, April 18: For the smooth conduct of the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in five parliamentary constituencies in Assam, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), has completed all necessary arrangements to conduct the polls in a free, fair, safe, and peaceful manner. The ECI has already appointed Election Observers (EO) to keep a strong vigil on law and order, and expenditure among others.

Tura, Apr 18: Polling officials along with EVM’s have left for election duty in the three assembly constituencies in South West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 19.

Williamnagar, April 17: Two young men from Assam along with their hired driver have been found murdered, their bodies burnt beyond recognition and buried in two shallow graves in the Rongmil area, 15 kms from Rongjeng in East Garo Hills. The murder, coming on the eve of polling, has sent shock waves across the region.

Shillong, April 17: National People’s Party (NPP) national general secretary and deputy chief minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Wednesday said the party has the highest vote share compared to other political parties and no doubt it will definitely win the Shillong parliamentary seat in the Lok Sabha election to be held on April 19. Addressing an election campaign at Malki ground, Dhar said the total vote share of the NPP comes to around 4.45 lakh.

Tura, April 17: Faced with repeated attacks from the opposition for aligning with the BJP in this election, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has said that his party-NPP remains ever steadfast in protecting the interests of tribals, minorities and other communities and that being in a coalition government of the BJP led NDA alliance doesn’t have to make anyone compromise on their ideology.

Resubelpara, April 16: In a series of voting awareness programmes being held throughout the State, the “Dul Doka” was also held at Dekachang Market in Resubelpara, North Garo Hills today. The programme was organized by the CEO Meghalaya as part of the Systematic Voters Education & Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign in tandem with District Administration, North Garo Hills and A.chik Theatre Tura.

TURA, April 16: A crucial bridge connecting West Garo Hills to South Garo Hills district has collapsed after two heavily loaded trucks carrying sugar tried to pass over it on Tuesday morning near Dimapara area. The 60 meter iron bridge at Bagla, 6 kms from Dalu, NH 217 road that many travel on to head to Baghmara in South Garo Hills via Karonggre- Dimapara by bypassing Barengapara and Dalu towns. Heavy vehicles are restricted from passing over the bridge.

TURA, April 16: A flying squad team of the election department that was on duty in Tikrikilla to ensure election rules are in place was attacked by unidentified men on Monday night resulting in injuries to the flying squad magistrate. It is the first case of violence during the election campaign period for the Tura Lok Sabha seat.

Tura, April 15: In anticipation of the upcoming General Election to the Lok Sabha on April 19th, 2024, and the subsequent counting of votes on June 4th, 2024, Jagdish Chelani, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills District, Tura, has announced ‘Dry Days’ for the entire district. The restrain orders will be in effect on April 17th, 18th, and 19th, 2024, and also on June 4th, 2024, during the vote counting process.

Guwahati, April 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with senior BJP leaders, launched the party’s Lok Sabha election manifesto, ‘Sankalp Patra,’ on Sunday. The document pledges comprehensive reforms and initiatives aimed at fostering national development and prosperity. The key pledges in the manifesto is that BJP vows to enhance infrastructure along Indo-China, Indo-Pakistan, and Indo-Myanmar borders, leveraging technological solutions for smarter fencing.
