MILAN — Two men were taken to Sullivan County Memorial Hospital following a crash Monday afternoon in the Ayerco parking lot in Milan. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 4:31 p.m. Aug. 24 at 620 N. Pearl St. A 61-year-old Roach man was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox north through the parking lot when the vehicle struck a post and then struck a stationary 2023 Honda ADV150 at a fuel pump.

The donation is made possible through the Member Impact Fund sponsored by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines The program, which matches up to $3 for every $1 donated by member financial institutions, significantly increasing the impact of Verimore Bank’s $10,000 contribution.

Corris Christine (Lentz) Cordray passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Pearls II, Princeton, MO at the age of 80. She was born to Carl and Corinne (Hashman) Lentz on June 17, 1946, in Lineville, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Lineville High School in 1964. On December 11, 1964, she had her son, Troy Martin Flummer. She and her son moved to Davenport, Iowa where she attended Business College and worked as a bookkeeper at Signa Car Parts and Crescent Macaroni Company.

Submitted by Gracey Gordon NEMR recently welcomed five area students to Camp Connect, a three-day summer camp designed to give students a behind-the-scenes look at the telecommunications industry and the many career opportunities available in the field. Camp Connect was held August 5–7 at NEMR and brought together Kasen Lindquist of Green City, Beau Snyder of Green City, Charlotte Tallman of Downing, BradLee Campbell of Unionville and Hannah Magers of Novinger.

MILAN — The Milan C-2 Board of Education approved several policies, plans and purchases during its June 17 regular meeting, including a new potty-training policy, an aspiring principal program and scoreboards for the district’s new ballfields. The new policy requires students entering the district’s preschool and kindergarten programs to be fully potty-trained before beginning the program. Exceptions are provided for students with disabilities as discussed with district administration.

Shirley Anne Tharp, 90, Olathe, Kansas passed away Saturday, August 15, 2026 at her home in Olathe, Kansas surrounded by family. It’s the start of a new school year, and college students are heading off to the dorms. College is the first time many young adults are out on their own and managing more of their own money. New students are often navigating major financial decisions, such as loans, scholarships and budgeting, for the first time — making them targets for scammers and identity thieves. Though younger people are often perceived as tech-savvy, they may also be financially inexperienced, and fraud can happen to anyone.

The Milan FFA Chapter was recently awarded a $3000 grant from Smithfield Foods to support the next generation of agricultural leaders through leadership skill development and career exploration in agriculture. “This grant is vital in helping ensure our students are able to participate in a multitude of leadership events that would not have been feasible before,” said Logan Fullerton, Milan FFA advisor.
