An Old Church Lady Named Pam
I went to church yesterday. Out of obligation or desire I couldn’t tell. I met a kind old lady named Pam who called me pretty and cute and friendly and familiar. We had never met before, but she reminded me of another old church lady named Pam I met years before. That Pam treated me like her own grandchild when I knew no one else. How wonderfully strange the two Pam’s were; they reminded me of every mother and grandmother that had ever loved me.
AI Poster Generates Controversy for VIU Theatre Department
On Thursday, March 6, Vancouver Island University’s theatre department premiered their production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream—the immensely popular William Shakespeare play filled with Athenian lovers, fairy mischief and magic, and even Mechanicals—whatever those are supposed to be. Spoiler alert: the Mechanicals aren’t Shakespeare’s interpretation on robots, or cyborgs, or something cooler.

End of Summer Song
My sister and I are terribly aware of the wilting flowers, reclusive daddy long-legs, and how early the sun dips out of view. This could be, our last weekend camping in the backyard. We have knees to scrape, gravel against skin. We long for more— green stains on our shoes, and find ourselves dancing under the rainbow of every sprinkler. But here, tucked between pews, bibles heavy on our laps, we mourn the passing summer day.
The Death of Duolingo and His Iconic Rebirth
The old Duo can’t come to the phone right now. Why? ‘Cause he’s dead. On February 11, Duolingo announced on social media with “heavy hearts” that Duo, formally known as the Duolingo owl, is dead. It became a mystery for the internet to solve.
An Evening in Oz
Ever been to the Land of Oz? I hadn’t until this past weekend, where I was able to see my favourite characters on ice. Whether it was Dorothy and her crew, Glinda and Elphaba, or the Wizard and his flying monkeys, each performance wowed the audience. The Nanaimo Skating Club performed 22 numbers with over 100 skaters on Saturday, March 8 at Frank Crane Arena.
