Levy County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) Bronson, Florida - On June 9, 2026, 36 year-old Peter William Jacobs of Morriston, Florida was arrested by the Levy County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) Criminal Investigations Division (CID) as a result of investigation that began on February 11, 2026, due to the report of an adult male having inappropriate sexual contact with a juvenile. Detectives Joe Barrera and Cody Weaver identified Jacobs as the suspect in the case.
Crystal River honey processing and storage facility destroyed by fire
Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR) Crystal River, Florida – At 8:20 a.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2026, Citrus County Fire Rescue was dispatched to Foti Bee's, Inc., a honey processing and storage facility located at 51 N. Winterset Avenue in Crystal River due to a reported fire. The first units arrived on scene at 8:29 a.m. to find a large commercial building heavily involved in fire, with intense heat and flames threatening a nearby residence.

Laela Lisa Bauscher, 24, of Chiefland, FL, was arrested by the Levy County Sheriff's Office, June 4, 2026, charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, and possession of drug equipment ($3,000 bond).

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Troop C Homosassa, Florida - A 50 year-old man from Homosassa died as the result of a nearly head-on traffic crash that occurred at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026 in Homosassa. The crash took place on U.S. Highway 19 (South Suncoast Boulevard), south of West Merrivale Lane.

Dunnellon woman charged with large scale animal neglect and cruelty
Citrus County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) Dunnellon, Florida - On Tuesday, July 2, 2026, the Citrus County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year-old Christina Mary Pitts of Dunnellon, as the result of an investigation into the neglect of dozens of animals at her business, Moonstone Field, a five-acre property where she bred horses, dairy goats, and Florida native sheep. Deputies arrived at Pitts' property, June 2, due to a caller reporting a horse in severe distress.

FWC announces winners of the School Fishing Program’s Fishing & Conservation Challenge
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) School Fishing Program congratulates the winners of the Fishing & Conservation Challenge. This past school year, students across the state completed various projects focused on conservation and ethical angling such as cleaning up their local waterway, practicing catch and release and passing on their knowledge of fishing to younger students.
