PERRIS – In its efforts to consolidate event venues into a tighter geographic profile, LA28, the organizing committee for the 2028 LA Olympics has pulled water events from Lake Perris. Rowing and canoe sprinting was previously set to be held at Lake Perris, but officials relocated the event to Long Beach, which involved arrangements supported by the World Rowing Congress.

PERRIS (CNS) – A Moreno Valley man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of killing a man in Perris and leading deputies on a pursuit. Deputies responded to the 1600 block of north Perris Boulevard after a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at around 12:15 a.m. Sunday, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. They located a man suffering from gunshot injuries and began life- saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, the department said.

The family of Lena May (Mudahy) McFarlane, a prominent and beloved member of the Perris faith and senior community, has shared that their mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great-grandmother has, “…passed away peacefully on her 102nd Birthday, June 9, 2024.” She was born to Dorothy Elizabeth Luscombe and Thomas Leonard Mudahy in St. Andrews, Jamaica in 1922, and spent the first half-century plus of her life in the Caribbean.

She, who with her husband, Dwight Benton “Ben” Minnich, owned The Perris Progress in the 1960s, 70s, into the early ’80s was a part of landmark air pollution regulation and volunteered tirelessly for local organizations. Mae was also the glue that held her family and community together.

MENIFEE (CNS) – The city of Menifee Wednesday asked local residents and those in surrounding communities to consider volunteering to clean up monuments, make improvements to a senior living facility and join in other activities as part “Menifee Better Together,” set for the end of the month. “Menifee Better Together is an inspiring event that brings out the best in our community,” Councilwoman Lesa Sobek said.

GOOD HOPE (CNS) – A bicyclist who was killed after being stuck by a Toyota Tacoma was identified Sunday, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced. The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 5:14 p.m. Saturday and occurred on state Highway 74 at Taylor Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. A witness told the CHP the bicyclist was down on the dirt along the right-hand shoulder. The pickup truck’s driver remained at the scene, the CHP said.

RIVERSIDE (CNS) – Hundreds of worshipers are expected to trek to the crest of Mount Rubidoux in Riverside Sunday for an Easter Sunrise Service, carrying on a tradition that began more than a century ago. The towering Mount Rubidoux Cross will be the destination of the faithful. Multiple pastors will preside at intervals during the inter-denominational observance.

RIVERSIDE (CNS) – Another storm system is bearing down on the Inland Empire, slated to arrive Easter weekend amid an “atmospheric river” that could produce heavy precipitation in some locations.

By Don Ray Perris Unified High School District Superintendent Grant Bennett announced he’ll be retiring at the end of the current school year. The 64-year-old career educator has overseen the district’s nine school facilities in Perris and Menifee since 2015. They include six high schools, a middle school, an adult school, and an online learning academy. “I’ve been thinking about it for a while,” Bennett said.
