Let Us Rejoice and Be Glad

GUEST COLUMN – GOOD THINGSCOME TO THOSE WHO WAIT
7 By Carol J. Rhodes From kindergarten through twelfth grade, I was the tallest one in my class. Most of the boys didn’t even come up to my shoulders. I envied the short shapely girls who were aiways elected as cheerleaders or majorettes, and who never had to endure being called granddaddy longlegs, skinny Minnie, or told they would be mistaken for a thermometer if they drank tomato juice. Sometimes it made me hate my parents for giving me too tall genes.

The Conservation Conversation
10 By Caleb Clarkson One of the most satisfying things I’ve experienced during my few years in conservation is seeing a breeding season through from beginning to end. As the first Wilson’s Plovers and Least Terns arrive for the season, the opening pages of a six-month saga begin to unfold. Staking out territory, finding a mate, building a nest, laying eggs, and withstanding the outlandish whims of Texas weather on the Gulf Coast isn’t even the half of it.

Rent costs more.
