A Clark County Superior Court Judge on Wednesday, July 8, dismissed a motion from a defense team requesting to have the entire Clark County Prosecutor’s Office disqualified in a case against its client. The motion was made in regard to unusual circumstances surrounding the original prosecutor in the case, Laurel Smith, her relationship with a law enforcement officer investigating the case, and the fact that Smith is the presumptive Clark County prosecuting attorney.

DOJ threatens Washington election officials with prosecution if noncitizens vote
Federal authorities on Tuesday threatened Washington state election officials with criminal prosecution if they fail to prevent noncitizens from voting in this year’s federal elections. In a seven-page letter, Assistant U.S. Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon warned the election officers that they could be held criminally liable if they knowingly retain noncitizens on the state’s voter rolls or facilitate noncitizens in receiving and casting ballots. Dhillon sent similar letters to several states.

In Loving Memory of Robert Clyde Yeargain: 1928-2026
Robert (Bob) Clyde Yeargain, 78 years old, passed away on May 17, 2026. He was born on March 23, 1948, in Los Angeles, CA. He graduated from Leuzinger High School in Lawndale, CA. Robert is the last Yeargain in his family genealogy line. He moved to Amboy, WA, in 1989, where he built his small business. He helped many friends in the Amboy area, and he will be missed. Bob is survived by his sister, Gayle Ann Fraser, from Grants Pass, OR; and his nephew, Greg Fraser, also from Grants Pass.
In Loving Memory of Jacqueline Marie Wooldridge Andersen: 1930-2026
Jackie, or Grandma Jac, to all went home to be with her Lord on June 23rd, 2026, at 95 years of age. She was born at home on 279th Street in Battle Ground. At the time it was part of La Center. Her husband, Charles Leroy Andersen, preceded her in death, as did her parents, Milton Carlos (Carl) Wooldridge and Marguerite Helena Green Wooldridge.

Rebecca Anstine Gallery to host Pacific Northwest art exhibition
The Rebecca Anstine Gallery will host a new exhibition featuring Pacific Northwest artists Oleg Ulitskiy and Elizabeth Ganji from July through September 2026. The exhibition, “Impressions of the Pacific Northwest,” is on display on the sixth floor of the Clark County Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St., Vancouver. Admission is free.
