The April-May allergy season is a familiar roll-around for anyone who grew up in the Northeastern United States. Sitting by an open window in a classroom, trying to take an exam while your eyes water so much that you can’t see the exam question. Stepping outside into the bright May sunshine and sneezing five times in a row before squinting into the haze of pollen that you can almost see being blown across the yard by the spring breeze.

When it comes to creating art, I have found that not knowing anything can sometimes leave room for more creativity. At times when I am overcome with writer’s block or things like that, I have learned that the solution is actually abandoning what I know. There is something about not knowing anything that can sometimes force you to look at art from a new perspective. This allows you to approach new techniques and maybe discover something new about the artistic process by starting from scratch.

Osteoporosis is a disease of the skeletal system that makes bones more likely to break, affecting more than 200 million people worldwide. However, scientists may have found a way to rebuild those weakened bones. Men’s Volleyball has won their fifth consecutive Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championship title after taking a 3-1 victory over Messiah College this past Saturday, April 11, at Canavan Arena. This victory rounds out their undefeated conference record at 8-0 and adds another win to their overall record of 25-5. Additionally, this was the fourth time the Ducks have faced off against Messiah in the conference championship game, with the Ducks winning each time.

In high school, my day would start at around 6 a.m. and end around 9 p.m. For most of the year, I would be at school 45 minutes early for mock trial practice. I would then have a full day of classes which would be followed by a shift at the restaurant I worked at. I would usually make it home by 8:30 p.m. where I would get some homework done and then doomscroll and crash for the day. Rinse and repeat this for 180 days for a couple of years, and that was high school.

But I don’t reach for water. I don’t laugh it off or downplay it. I keep eating. Because this isn’t new to me. I was raised on food that doesn’t apologize for its heat. In my house, spice was never something added cautiously at the end.
